DENVER – An RTD bus was sent careening into a house on Saturday after a car lost control on some ice and crashed into the back of the bus.

Denver Police say the car was heading east on Asbury and tried to stop at a stop sign when it hit some ice and slid into the back of a bus which was heading north on Dahlia, perpendicular to the direction the car was going.

Police say the car T-boned the back of the bus, which caused it to lose control and slam into the house at about 10:40 a.m.

Authorities say a woman was home at the time, sleeping in the basement. She says when she heard the bus crash into her home, she thought her cat had knocked over the Christmas tree. She was not injured.

The driver of the bus was transported to the hospital to be treated for minor cuts from broken glass, police say.

The driver of the car that hit the bus was cited for careless driving, according to police.

Authorities shut down a portion of Dahlia following the crash. The bus was later removed from the home and the road was reopened.
