I am trying to program my PRO-197 and don't know what to put into for the TSYS type in WIN500

My choices are P25 AUTO, and P25 MANUAL. Do you know what the difference is?

P-25 auto and program the control channels only, scanner does the rest of the work.

Thanks Jim,

You'll have to keep in mind that I'm new to this and never owned or used a scanner before, so forgive me if I don't have the foggiest idea of what you are talking about.

How do I program the control channels? How do I know what to put into for the control channel frequencies (or is it even frequencies that I put in to program the control channel)? I don't even see anywhere in the TSYS tab in WIN500 that even mentions control channels.

Also, all of my talkgroups are unassigned, how do I assign each talkgroup to the TSYS that I've created?

In the TSYS listings, there is a Dwell, Att, LOut, AGC, and Supertrack. As default, the AGC and SuperTrack are chosen. What do these columns mean?

Red face

Are you in the metro area? Sounds like a visit to Erik's RS store on the 16th street mall is highly in order to help answer your questions or at least share what programming software you are using (hopefully not trying to program the scanner manually).

Welcome to the list, setting up trunked systems has a pretty steep learning curve don't get discouraged.

Not sure where you are located but go here and use this file:
Updated N. Colorado Win96 Win500 files

It will get you up and running and then you can go to the radio ref section to get specific control channel freqs for your area and or add or delete talk groups etc

This is "Phil's File" for the north metro area.

Good luck !

Thanks guys,

I'm starting to understand the basics and was able to do an initial program into my PRO-197. Now that I know how to associate the area that I want to scan with the control channel frequency for that area, I am able to insert the frequencies for the TSYS. I even programmed LED colors to give a broad generalization of what I am listening to. This thing is great!

The only thing that I'm having trouble with now is I'm not able to associate TGRP objects with their TSYS parameters in WIN500. What I've been having to do is download the TGRPs and the TSYS parameters into the PRO-197 and then set each TGRPs TSYS parameter one-by-one with the scanner controls. I then upload the changes back onto the WIN500 program and save for future reference. It takes a while to set each TGRP on the scanner and am wondering if there is just some easy way to do this in WIN500.

If you mean you are going to the front panel of the scanner to make settings then you're right. There's a better way with Win500.

Which parameters?

I have WIN500, I have been assigning TSYS to each TGRP separately on the scanners LED panel. I was wondering if there's an easier way to do it in WIN500

Yep.
On the TSYS tab look at the lower portion of the screen for the TSYS of interest. You'll see the TG.
Highlight the TG of interest. Over on the right side is a group of blank checkboxes labeled 1 thru 20. Put a check in the box you want the TG to be assigned to. You'll also see the right side of the TG line change to show a number matching the checkbox. You can hightlight groups of TGs and do the same thing.

You can change LED colors and priorities on this line.

This sort of stuff is why it's good to have someone show you. It's very simple but might not be obvious how to do something.

NWOU,

You're talking about assigning the TGRP to a scan list. This doesn't set the TSYS for the talkgroup (TGRP), it simply sets the TGRP into the scan list so that when the scanner is in scan mode and scanning through the scan list, it will pick up the TGRPs that are assigned to that scan list. Only if the TGRPs are set to a TSYS, which assigns the control channels to the TGRP, will the scanner actually receive anything from the talkgroup (TGRP).

I'm talking about assigning a TSYS to a TGRP, we aren't talking about the same thing. Regardless of if I have a scan list set for a certain TGRP, it will still say "no TSYS" unless I set the TSYS for the TGRP which I've yet to be able to do in WIN500 and have only been able to do from the front panel.

You're right I misunderstood what you're doing.
The way I've learned it is TGRPS have to be listed under each TSYS.

When I was learning Win500 I thought it was different but I was mistaken.

You might not be getting what you think you are. Or you are getting something that Win500 can't do.

Best of luck.

I figured out what I need to do. Once I import new TGRPs into the TSYS tab, I am able to view all of the TGRPs that aren't assigned a TSYS by unchecking the "show assigned" checkbox. Now that I am viewing all of the TGRPs that haven't been assigned a TSYS, I can simply cut them into my clipboard and paste them into the list that comes up when I check the "show assigned" checkbox. Problem solved! Now all of my TGRPs have been assigned the proper TSYS and are in the correct list. I then put them into logical order according to the geographical location that is closest and reassign the object IDs so that they now are listed in order. Once this was created, I no longer have the Heap error, a different post that I had.
