Cool Balloon Boy Radio Traffic Recording

I created some clips of a 170 min recording I made during the Balloon Boy incident by importing multiple feeds from Live Police, Fire, and EMS Scanners on RadioReference.com and mixing them into my site at Justin.tv - Radioman 911

You could view/listen to the incident in its entirety in a 12 clip series or view/listen to the hightlights of one of the best/worst media hoaxes of all time.

Clips are located at:

Justin.tv - Radioman 911 Clips - Most Recent

Enjoy!

Dave from Radioman911.com

I made a clip of everything that I recorded live. It is likely that if you buy a $30 subscription you could find it in the scanamerica archives but I'm not sure what is in there.

This is noon to around 2:45 with all the dead air removed. I started it at what seems to be the first mention of the balloon. The recording is about 1 hour 15 minutes with no silence.

Can you imagine what public safety officials thought when they heard this call come over the air? Definitely a very odd call. May have thought it was a joke or something.

Thanks for uploading! I was thinking of doing the same thing here.

Good example of interop problems, multiple agencies and channels.

I agree. I heard Weld on MAC(6 I think), but no CSP/Larimer/etc. Where were they?

I don't know what he's talking about with interop problems. Once the balloon went into Weld, it was Weld county's problem and Larimer is done. Larimer now has the responsibility of the criminal investigation since the residence is in Larimer County, but why would Larimer chase it halfway across the state (assuming it would have made it that far). Not sure what CSP would have done that the counties weren't already doing. No sense in tying up more resources needlessly. Most everything was on MAC 5 for the "flight following" and then the search transitioned to MAC 7. Sounds like a good use of mutual aid channels to me, and anyone who didn't make it over to a MAC needs to figure out where it is in their radio! No story here on the radio interop. end.

Sometimes it's just too funny to pass up. I can detect humor in the dispatcher's voice. Especially when mentioning occupied one time.
