Hello from Durango; Interesting happens down this way regarding DTRS or lack there of actually. The San Luis Valley is almost completely DTRS and the coverage seems pretty good, very little VHF activity left there, and the Pool Table site covers till the top of Wolf Creek Pass on the East side. Then descending towards Pagosa Springs there is NO digital coverage until you get about 15 miles North of town and begin to log the Oak Brush Hill site. There is a proposed site on Wolf Creek Pass but no activity on that yet and at this rate will probably be Summer 2006 before the weather will allow at that elevation.

Having left Denver on Thursday and traveling East to Kansas, then South to Oklahoma and New Mexico across the entire SE plains this is the first substantial digital hole I have found. Then from Pagosa thru Bayfield and into Durango and onto Cortex appears to be pretty solid DTRS coverage but NO users. Everything appears to remain on VHF including public safety, csp and cdot. Although like many other areas before dispatching began the CSP troopers down here are using DTRS id 8111 for tac so they must have the radios installed and are just waiting for Montrose dispatch to throw the switch.

Went up to the highest point in Mesa Verde a fire lookout site and could track VHF agencies from 4 states and had a solid DTRS signal from at least 4 sites but still no users after 4 hours of logging. Guess the backbone is in place but no one can afford the radios down this way.

Sites are current as listed on pro96com and RR databases but the only slight modification is Site 209 Control Ch it shows on our lists as La Monte Peak (5 miles SE of Mancos) but actually comes up as “Assignment Unknown At This Time”, I have attached that site to this email for everyone’s review.
