You'll want to read the Radio Reference database link. Wanting to listen to Denver narrows down the field of usable scanners, due to the ESK DTRS. Aurora not so much, but it's there as well. The Pro-106 and the PRO-197 from RS and their counterparts in the GRE world are a good place to start because with their WIN-500 or similar software to program them, it becomes not only easy but a very understandable and simple process, and you're listening in minutes.

If you only want to listen to Denver and Aurora or Westy/Arvada, DIA and conventional analog systems, the GRE PSR-310 is a great value at $150.
As Lazierfan fan mentioned, if you want to listen to just about anything else (including the State DTRS system or Lakewood/West Metro/Wheat Ridge), you'll want to look at the Radio Shack 106 or 197, their sister radios GRE PSR-500/600 or the Uniden 396/996

I have a Uniden 396XT and a Homepatrol 1. Both are really good for this area. If you're just getting started in trunking, it's hard to beat the Homepatrol. Really easy to use.

Data Thanks, Really only care to listen to Denver/Aurora for now and only because we can no longer get the tach channels on here. Found a GRE PSR-310 new in box for $97.00. Wondering if thats a smokin deal?

Yes - if that's NIB, that is a very good deal.

Wirelessly posted (Clacking rocks together: Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.3.4; en-us; DROID X2 Build/4.5.1A-DTN-150-30) AppleWebKit/533.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/533.1)
I use Win500. I'm sure PSREdit works with it as well as Butel ARC software.

Best Radio For Denver / Aurora
I have both the GRE PSR-600 and a Uniden 996XT. I originally had the PSR-600 since I primarily listen to aircraft and railroad radio traffic and live in the north Denver Metro area. The intermod was so overwhelming on the PSR-600 I finally bought a used 996XT. The 996XT does not have the sensitivity the PSR-600 does but there is far less intermod with the Uniden radio. Of course, listening to railroads and aircraft, nothing had PL tones to reduce the intermod but if you're listening to public safety only, I'd lean towards the GRE because I find the GRE programming architecture (I use Butel for both radios) much easier to figure out and use... My $0.02 worth!
