Default El Paso County towers

Ok, so El Paso County has a TON of towers, right?

I'm working on programming a scanner for the Black Forest area. I'm interested in hearing the usual public safety stuff.

I see that I have a tower in the Black Forest area, but I'm thinking this will NOT work for picking up Colorado Springs PD and FD.

So... WHICH ONE is the best for picking up those agencies? I'm a little far from the Cheyenne Mountain tower, but maybe I can still get it?? I was hoping one of the northern towers would carry CSPD also.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I would try Austin Bluffs if the Black Forest Site is too weak for you.

So you're saying that even those northern towers (with far less frequencies) carry Colorado Springs police and fire too?

Yes. Austin Bluffs is adjacent to UCCS and is active with all the CSPD/CSFD TG's.

You could program the Control Channels for the EPCO TRS's to see which is strongest for your radio to help you decide. Don't use Cheyenne Mountain if you want to monitor CSPD or CSFD.

The other idea which has worked well for me is to log each site for at least 48hrs with pro96com to determine who affliates with it on a regular basis.

I use Black Forest, Stanley Canyon and Cedar Heights. Cedar Heights is a little sketchy for me. I receive most all El Paso county SO, FD's and CSPD and the smaller PD'S all the way to Pueblo County.
