DENVER -- Denver firefighters battled a massive blaze that involved at least three floors of a nearly completed luxury condominium complex near the University of Denver.

The four-story structure at Buchtel Boulevard and Louisiana Avenue was under construction and fortunately, there was no one inside, firefighters said.

Units in the Louisiana Station Lofts cost up to a half-million dollars and most were nearly complete. Some of the new owners were supposed to move in next month.

Witnesses said that the fire sent huge flames shooting into the sky -- as much as 20 to 30 feet above the roof -- and caused drivers on nearby Interstate 25 to slow down and gawk.

Firefighters battled the blaze in a mostly defensive mode, trying to protect the propane tanks that sat on the structure's roof.

They just announced that it's pretty much out. A few hotspots left and they'll be watching over the night. Lots of units returning to station.

Yeah, but but he also said they still have fire burning in the walls, so it could easily flare up again. I saw the building (and fire), pretty much a total loss after months of building it - BUMMER.

That thing is actually still on fire, not completely out after over 24 hours. Still on Fire Dist. Channel 3.

One of the TV stations said that 2/3 of the building might be salvageable. It is a really big building, but that still surprises me. The water damage alone has to be crazy.

Remember the media also said 12 of the 13 miners were alive also.

Gotta love the local TV stations that really know what they're talking about - NOT. They took that whole building down.
