LOGAN COUNTY - An ambulance driver faces several charges of careless driving for causing a deadly crash with a semi-truck on May 9.
Thursday, the Colorado State Patrol recommended two counts of careless driving causing death and two counts of careless driving causing serious bodily injuries against 22-year-old Chris Larusso of Westminster.
He was driving the ambulance when the State Patrol says he slammed into the back of a semi-truck on I-76, 15 miles west of Sterling.
Five people were inside the ambulance, including a pregnant woman.
Two people were killed in the crash: 43-year-old Karen Woods of Elizabeth and Vicky Thomas of Goodland, Kan. Both were passengers in the ambulance.
The pregnant woman, Kelsey Schlichenmayer of Burlington, was transported to the hospital, where doctors delivered her baby boy.
Larusso and 31-year-old Dan Beza were treated and released. Beza was the EMT onboard the ambulance.
The driver of the semi was not injured.
