ASPEN, Colo. (AP) - The Pitkin County sheriff says his office and Aspen police spent around 50-thousand dollars related to the Iraqi president's visit last weekend.
Jalal Talabani (jahl-LAHL' tahl-ah-BAH'-nee) was attending a conference held by the investment firm Forstmann Little and Company. Officers and deputies helped the Secret Service scout and secure spots where Talabani stayed or appeared.
Sheriff Bob Braudis says more than 13-hundred staff hours were spent on the visit. In addition, about nine-thousand dollars of food was provided to staff on Talabani detail.
Also, Aspen streets superintendent Jerry Nye says his department spent about 13-hundred dollars for 34 hours of staff time on roadblocks for Talabani's motorcade.

$1,300 for 34 hours of Roadblocks; $38.23 an hour:evil:

$50,000 for 1,300 law enforcement hours (at a rate of $38.46 an hour) for "the whole weekend" (assuming that's a 48 hour weekend and ALL the officers were on duty ALL hours of the day and night,) ; 27 Officers.

$9,000 to feed those 27 Officers is $333.33 per day per Officer.

Swilling at the government trough; PRICELESS:roll:

You have to figure that most of this was overtime, so, divide the per hour amount by 1.5 and it doesn't look near as bad.

It's essentially a regular pay rate of 25-26 dollars per hour, which is about par for officers.

Not trying to play devil's advocate, but, I agree with you that it is a bit excessive.
