DENVER -- A crane being transported on a flatbed truck struck the bridge on 6th Avenue, forcing chunks to fall onto the eastbound lanes Friday afternoon.
An 8-foot section of the Knox Court overpass was knocked down onto Highway 6 just before 3 p.m. Police have shut down two eastbound lanes of 6th Avenue near Federal and all the southbound lanes of Knox Court. Engineers with the Colorado Department of Transportation are worried about the structural integrity of the bridge and are inspecting it closely before the lanes will be reopened, 7NEWS reported.
The westbound lanes on 6th Avenue are open, but traffic is getting by very slowly. Traffic is backed up to Wadsworth.
