Default Aurora Fire Dept. Station 15

According to several sources in RMA, AFD Station 15 is in service effective yesterday at 1680 S. Catawba Wy. They are housing a paramedic engine in this station, not a squad.

If they are open they have not run a single call that's I've heard at least but Station 13 and 14 have been fairly busy this weekend.

Well, I have to run some errands over that way today. I'll drive pass and see if there are any cars over there and see if I can sneak a peak in the bay to see what they're running. That must be real interesting with the Cunningham/Aurora lines over that way.

Default Aurora Fire Dept. Staion 15

Hello Jimmnn
I heard them dispatched yesterday on a AA at about Hampden and Gun Club (along with Squad 14, Engine 13, Truck 10, among others). It was reported as "somewhere between 6th Ave. and Hampden on GunClub Rd.

Well it's open! Does anyone know anything more about this station? I drove pass it today and almost missed it. It's a 2 story house that looks like it could have been a model home with a huge single bay garage on it. The bay doors had no windows so it's hard to tell what's running out of it, but in the driveway next to the add on bay were 2 cars and one in the street w/ FF plates. It's occupied and a TV was on in the living room. Now I'm not one to stop and knock on the door, but this seems weird. It's so crammed in next to the rest of the neighborhood that you couldn't add on any other bay space if you tried. So, it's (if it's not a temporary station) going to be forever be a single company house.

Squad 14 with 2 person staffing....$215,000

Provoice radio system that doesn't work....$12.3 million dollars.

Building a fire station with absolutely no room for versatility....priceless

I believe the station was built by the developer specifically so that it would blend into the neighborhood.
Exactly how much "versatility" do you need for a fire station?

Aurora a couple years back did a response time study. And in this study, they determined that they needed to move their trucks around to better cover the city. That's what I'm talking about. With the development going on in eastern Aurora, things are bound to change. Someday, maybe, they would need a truck out there. Wouldn't it be nice if you didn't have to rebuild a bay to get one out there or worse yet just give up that option all together. I understand the whole blend in with the neighborhood thing. But I'm not too sure why you would so limit your options with only a single bay. Aurora's master build out is supposed to be comparable to Denver in size. When you're building for the future, build for the future. When was the last time you saw a city build a single bay station? This is the versatility I'm talking about.

I think when you can get the developer to build the station for you, you make some reasonable compromises. Plus, if they do eventually need a bigger station, it would be easier to sell what is pretty much a house with a very large garage as opposed to something that looks too "industrial" in a residential area.
Personally I think it's a great concept.

Question What about an Ambulance?

Even after many promises to city council and FD administration, RM still does not have a unit SE on a reliable basis, E-13 officer seems to be the loudest one on the radio whenever he works but appears there average response time remains greater that 15 minutes into that area.

Wonder if they get fined based on the way the contract is written?

You both make good points. That was going to be my next statement was the whole ambulance coverage if RMA was to go by the wayside. That may happen given a certain political shift of power, it was supposedly close the last time there was a mayoral election in Aurora. I think it's personally kind of a ridiculous idea to limit yourself so soon out of the shoot. I worked in an area that developers built stations and both of them were 3 bay stations, all developer build, 100%. But true, you could always sell and rebuild in the future if you need to. But that's just more of a hassle latter in the future as was where I used to work is has been trying to do that for the last 3 years with no real success. I donno, with all the recent poor decisions being made over here, it's all just getting a little out of hand IMO.

It's funny to I must still be missing them have not heard E-15 yet and that's even after hearing E or S-14 (depends on the shift) fairly often and of course E-13.
