Default New to Colorado scanning

Hi all, just bought a Pro-97 yesterday and am begining to pull whats left of my hair out.

Think I have finally figured out Win 97.

I have Denver in Bank 0, Aurora in Bank 1 and Lakewood in Bank 2. All freq's were downloaded in the same Win 97 file and freq's were imported from R/R. I can see the scanner hitting all three banks but am only hearing transmission from Aurora (Bank 1)

I am listening to Denver on ScanDenver and nothing that comes from their site hits my scanner.

I also can't seem to find certain cities near me on R/R, I live in Greenwood Village and when I search R/R...Arapahoe County I find nothing. I would also like to find Lone Tree, Littleton, Centennial etc.......

Back to pulling out some hair.....and thanks in advance for any help, suggestions

Won't be able to listen to Lone Tree, Centennial, Arap County, Greenwood Village, Littleton etc with your new toy sorry, there all on the State DTRS system and that requires a digital scanner to monitor but luckily most of those depts mentioned are available online.

Welcome aboard!

On the Denver system, they are "testing" a 2nd CC. Last I checked it was LCN 17. Try locking that LCN out and see if that helps you hear the Denver system some. Welcome to the Colorado Forum!

Jim, thanks!

I have been listening to them on-line which prompted me to buy the "new toy" Only problem with on-line is only being able to listen to one city at a time.

Guess I didn't do enough research before buying th Pro-97. Thanking Radio Shack now for the 30 day return policy.

Any idea what scanner would work?

Oddly I do know a wig maker

OK the Denver Public Safety system has 24 Frequencies. On Win 97 lock out the one that is labeled 17, that might help you listen to the system better. Like I said on ScanDenver, rumor has it that Denver will not be scanable here soon. There are people here that can explain why and how a lot better then I can. But locking out # 17 helped my 2055. Hope that helps

The RS Pro-96 will get the dtrs system minus 700 mhz. Its on sale now I believe. Also radio shack should have some new scanners for digital next year as well as GRE (500 and 600???) and the unidens (396 and 996).

make sure that you can hear the Mt. Morrison CC clearly (currently 855.4875) this can have a affect on edacs tracking. It looks like you have it set up correctly though.

I am at Belleview and University and the signal is so strong I have to have the ATT turned on the 1st CC. I sent him the file I am using, and he still has nothing. Sounds like maybe he got a bad unit?

If the scanner were bad would it still play Aurora though?

I initialized it after loading you're file, went to Win97 and web loaded Aurora and it works fine. Just seems to be Denver giving me fits.

Pro-97 won't really do what I want anyway, so will probably return it and just listen to ScanDenver. Only downside is not being able to scan.

I really just wanted to listen to my area Greenwood Village, Littleton, Centennial, Lone Tree, Arapahoe County. Denver and Aurora was just going to be an added bonus as Greenwood Village is mostly a sleeper...lol

Thanks for trying!

Les

If you want to stick with Radio Shack scanners, go with the Pro-96. However, many agencies are switching from 800mhz to 700mhz, which the Pro 96 won't cover. If you want a digital scanner that will cover 700mhz, go with the Uniden 396t.

Was wondering the same thing myself, Erik. I don't think anyone is actually making any kind of "switch", but some new towers (seems to be only in metro Denver) may be 700mhz.

The only ones I know of are Auraria Campus police and State Capitol security.
There is a freeze as of August of this year for expanding 700 under the rebanding order from the FCC. The order will be lifted after the auction of 700 mhz private/public safety frequencies.

So, there aren't "many" agencies making a switch from 800mhz to 700mhz. In actuality a few new sites have 700mhz, but none of the old sites have switched at all, and there are no plans at all for that to happen.
Just want to set the record straight

In the Denver area as far as Police/Fire it looks like mostly only Adams Co agencies use the 700mhz on my bcd996
