Any info would be appreciated.
Cheers!
Yes your scanner will track DTRS in Mesa County perfectly, some VHF activity left but mostly for tac and fireground, everything else is DTRS.

Default Hello from Castle Rock!

I monitor Castle Rock, Douglas County, CSP and Parker. I've been a scanning enthusiast for a very long time (built my first crystal scanner from Heathkit). I'm loving my new HP-1E!

Smile Hello all!

I'm just a regular guy that loves radio, just not the cost. LOL
Anyways, I have my first real radio, Uniden BCD 396XT. I haven't had time to correctly learn how to program it for the Fort Collins area with FreeScan, but I hope to. Now, I'm not saying that FRS and GMRS aren't real radios, but they are very limited and unfortunately many times used by unlicensed people.
I have been scanning the police frequencies that are default.

Well, I'll be watching the boards, reading, and learning.

FS

PS. Is there any way to correct the spelling of the thread from "fourm" to "forum" and I find it humorous, "You last visited: 12-31-1969 at 0600 PM." I wasn't even born!

Default Intro

Hey folks!
Names josh. I was into amateur radio (KC0EXZ) for a little while when i was 17-19 but i let my license laps. I was always into scanners but as life started ramping up, I fell away from the hobby. I also didnt have the money for the new trunking scanners, so my listening was limited.
I'm just now getting back into the hobby now that i can afford some of the new technology and equipment and will be looking for advice as to what a good mobile scanner would be.
Im in the road all over Colorado for work and live in highlands ranch. I work all the way from boulder to the springs on a daily basis, so my coverage is fairly vast.

Default Long Time Lurker

My name is Ronnie, been listening on and off to radio reference for a few years. Mostly into HF amateur radio (KE5NSM) and listen in on local nets. After twenty three years career in public safety (Police-EMS-Emergency Management) I retired in 2008, had not been interested in listening to public safety radio until recent events, now I am wanting to get a good scanner to listen to while at home and on the road. The scanners I do have are old (BC350A, Pro-2026, Twin Turbo Sport Cat), mostly used back in my public safety days mounted in my public safety vehicle or at home.

Now that I got the bug again, I am looking for advice on radios and getting set up.

Thanks,
Ronnie

Heck, I didn't even realize there was a Colorado roll-call thread...

Name's Nate. Ham since 1991, currently WY0X. A number of folks here know me, and I them. Howdy. Never been super active on RR but lurking for at least a decade. Hi Jim, et al. Finally popped for a subscription, too.

Work on Linux machines in server rooms for a living, most of which has also been telecom-related. Lots of teleconferencing and videoconferencing stuff, and lots of general sysadmin stuff. Basically I'm a glutton for punishment, and still taking 2AM phone calls to fix things.

Fly a co-owned 1975 Cessna 182P out of Centennial Airport for fun. Got my Instrument Raring done (finally) this May after spending a hard week in an "accelerated/immersion" mode in December with a young CFII in Lincoln, NE I met online. We had scheduling problems with an examiner, and my work schedule, but I finally made it back out there in May, polished up for two days, and started the checkride on day 3 only to request a Discontinuance for insane winds, and finished up two days later when it diminished enough to actually launch the airplane.

Do repeater work for various folks. Ham and some others. Most recently, CAP when needed.

Ran the IRLP help desk server out of my basement for many many years, until Dave found it a virtual server to live on in Dallas. Also set up the second high-Bandwidth Reflector waaay back when Reflectors were a new thing. Haven't been too active on IRLP in a long time. I think I built the second node on the air in Colorado. (Kent, N0PSR was first.)

Got wrangled into being the Linux geek for the W0CDS D-STAR system's gateway which is basically just shaking my head at the awful quality of Icom's software which hasn't had a significant update in 10 years, answering registration requests, and calling the site folks if it blows a mirrored drive or drops offline.

Really like VHF and above weak-signal work, but the gear has been in storage basically since 2007 when I had top scores in the ARRL Rocky Mountain Region Rover category. Had a lot of help with those year's setups. Haven't done much with it since. Have toyed with putting up a tower at home, but never done it.

Been feeding LiveATC.net "KAPA TWR" feed from the house for a long time. Met Dave Pascoe a number of years ago online and in person at Oshkosh AirVenture numerous times. Super nice guy. Recently swapped the radio that was on it for a BC780XLT and it's a nice audio quality improvement. Better receiver too.

Scanning lately has been mostly Denver EDACS just because I always get a kick out of the stupidity continually going on in the "big" city, aviation band, and other assorted stuff. Not been too heavy into DTRS yet, mostly because it's a huge time-suck.

Slowly ordering up stuff to put a radio console in the Yukon. Probably going to have something VHF P25 in there, at least one digital scanner, something Hammy (likely the FT-857D) and not sure what else. Some antennas are already here, awaiting holes drilled and the headliner dropped, some of the radios checked out on the bench, and still thinking about what to put in there for P25 VHF and where I want the antennas. Currently have a Parking Garage to put the truck in, and I hate low-performance antennas, but if I stay in there at work, tall stuff on a Yukon won't cut it. That or I switch to outdoor parking. Which would be fine but is very full. Also trying to decide if the budget allows for something on DTRS. Trying to decide between Uniden and GRE/RS for the truck. Probably Uniden.

Working on putting together a PC capable of being a "supernode" for LiveATC but not enough radios right now to stuff it full. Just decided that an 8 port sound card is the way to go, rather than piles of computers. Room for expansion. Could also send stuff to RR that way. Flexible.

Recently refurbished the old TM-732A and got it working again. That old thing still has the hottest AM Aircraft receiver of any Ham mobile I've ever purchased, and always had nice audio too. It's scanning various stuff out in the garage, it's gotten too fragile to go mobile anymore. The latest refurb, I had to scrape out all the disintegrating sponge foam that used to hold the control head buttons in, so a strip of electrical tape has made it so that the buttons don't fall out.

That was long... Sorry. Howdy all. All of the above is second fiddle to going flying on a nice day... there's more than me flying it, so it may not be my voice, but N1279M is the tail number to listen for at KAPA.

Type somewhere around 80 WPM, and do it all day for a living. It's as natural as talking... almost.

Hey all,

Name is Mike. Just moved to Longmont from Dickinson, ND. Amateur Radio Callsign KB0OXY. Been a ham since 1994 and have been into radio and electronics for ... like ever. Just started getting big into communications and am looking to hopefully one day get into communications as a full time profession. Glad to be in an area where radio is big and forward thinking. Acting instead of Reacting. Can't wait to start the new adventure on the front range.

Hey folks names Dave, moved to Ft Collins area in August from upstate NY. Was a volunteer firefighter and paid EMT in NYS, starting back at the beginning here, waiting on Colorado to get me my certs then out job hunting...currently a student at FRCC for emergency medicine and vet tech (might as well diversify eh?) Don't have a scanner set up right now as my old scanner in NY was...well, old (bought from a fellow FF for 10 bucks, worked well but obsolete now) and I don't have the cash to buy a new one, though my fiance has made me promise if and when I get back into EMS and fire out here I set one up for her so she can worry more effectively lol...listen online both to feeds from back home and to larimer county fire/EMS...still getting used to things out here, loving it so far

Based at a Denver based trucking company and listen to whatever I can get. They way Colorado is set up makes it so easy to program by county which is what do, programming those counties I drive through east to west and north to south. My station is strictly mobile and includes my 996xt, PSR500, a 396xt, and my HP-1. Colorado is defiantly one my favorite places for scanning, especially the Denver Metro area. Always something going on.

I'm Trisha. Back in the day I was the sole non-medical volunteer with Platte Canyon Rescue Service here in Bailey. I knew a little about electronics years ago.

Having a scanner helps keep me feeling a little less isolated, as I'm permanently disabled.

I'm saving up for a 396XT, as my old analog Uniden died on Monday (it lasted 11 years!).

Time to brush up on the acronyms and terminology.

So, hello.
