RadioReference.com Acquires ScanAmerica.us, Adds 500+ Live Public Safety Audio Feeds
San Antonio, TX -- April 21st, 2009 --RadioReference.com LLC (RadioReference) announced today its acquisition of ScanAmerica.us, the Web's leading provider of online radio communications and public safety scanner audio feeds. This acquisition adds over 500+ live public safety scanner feeds to the RadioReference platform and provides a future foundation for the tremendous growth and popularity of listening to public safety communications online.
"Live public safety communications being broadcast online have experienced tremendous growth over the past two years and RadioReference has explored many avenues for offering this feature to our members," says Lindsay Blanton, president of RadioReference. "The ScanAmerica team has done a tremendous job of building their online community and their technology is well architected and top notch. This is a perfect fit with our strategy of adding additional content to the site."
ScanAmerica is the web's leading provider of online police and fire scanner feeds.* Founded in 2008, the site quickly amassed over 550 feeds from all over the United States and receives visits from over 220,000 people per month.
"This transition to RadioReference is perfect for the online scanner community," says Gordon Edwards, owner of ScanAmerica. "The combination of our best-of-breed broadcasting services along with the RadioReference database will result in tremendous benefits for both communities - most importantly being increased audience and visibility."

In addition, broadcasters who maintain a feed that meets a minimum set of requirements will be granted a complementary RadioReference Premium subscription, in addition to recognition in the overall RadioReference community.
Thats what I am talking about, making my 5 feeds pay off! lol :-)

I would hope that it can reach beyond the boundaries of the US and include some Canadian content as well.
It's no surprise that this has taken off. Years ago while I was kinda new to the internet along with having an interest in scanners, I would search out to see if I could find some online to listen to that were not from my own area.
That's when I decided to start a yahoogroup at the time to give a place for people like myself to help each other find these and help support the hobby.
From the year 2000 that yahoo group has since grown to over 5500 members worldwide and is currently in its 9th year. You can visit us at
LiveScannerAudio : Live Radio Scanner Internet Streaming
And yes, I am the groups Owner, and one of the moderators as well.
Congrats on the acquisition RadioReference.

Folks,
I cannot emphasize to you how excited I am about this acquisition. Gordon has done a fantastic job building an unbelievable platform, and I fully expect us to build the number of online feeds to over 1000 by the end of the year.
The actual date of acquisition is set for May 1st, 2009 - so be patient with us as we prepare to make the content migration and Gordon and I work together to make this as smooth and seamless as possible.
In addition, Gordon will be joining our senior leadership team as our Lead Administrator and Manager - Live Audio.
Warm regards,
|

That's excellent. I just recently joined ScanAmerica. It's a great site to listen and keep track of online scanner feeds. What will the merge be like? Will the online feeds be added to the database?

Lindsay,
My ID on Scanamerica is different from my ID here at RR. How can I consolidate the two, so that I only have "Universaldecoder"?
