Default England's "FCC" Borrowing Spectrum for Olympics

The Ofcom (England’s FCC) has revealed that it intends to borrow spectrum from public bodies in order to deal with the “unprecedented” demand for London’s airwaves during the 2012 Olympic Games.

I love this quote on the article's page

Quote:
All this fascinating article has done for me has been to remind me of that awful logo.

Spectrum? As long as my plane leaves safely when I flee the country in haste in order to avoid it all, then I have no objection.

I only wish I'd taken an out-of-state vacation when they brought that whole mess here in 2002

The spectrum that may be "borrowed" is likely to include the 430-440MHz band which the MoD manage, but is very under used. The CAA band is probably 455-456MHz area which is allready starting to be used for PMR.

Ofcom announced its intentions to use portions these bands years ago for PMR, I guess someone needed another filler story to get the Olympics in the media again.

"Ofcom said that it was important to ensure that the use of wireless technologies around the event did not disrupt spectrum use outside the Olympic Games."

At least they recognize RFI works both ways so why not the two birds approach... a really big Faraday cage?
