I hope they can get things going into production again. Yes I have very loudly voiced my displeasure over the features (or lack of) being offered by the 900 as it has been shown. But despite all that at some point I'd probably end up looking at one along with picking up an 800. Hopefully they won't be shut down for good.

GRE releases a update that is needed in the scanner world for P25 Phase 2 and a then goes bankrupt ?
Does any one smell a conspiracy other then me ? GRE has the ONLY scanner that can pickup Phase 2.

Going bankrupt is not something you just up and do overnight. You get there fairly gradually by failing to have enough cash flow to meet your obligations. Question is, would GRE America be immune from GRE Japan's debts?

There's a lot of potential value for a buyer in this...... (hint hint RR.com).... Obviously a long a bumpy road ahead but if navigated correctly could prove profitable.

This really sucks. I have both Uniden and GRE products and I love them both from various aspects but I sure would have never thought this would have happened but anymore I guess you just never know
And yes, GRE seems to have the only scanner at the moment capable of P25 Phase II and it seems they're going down the proverbial river. Dang it man...
I didn't really look at what what they filed for. Was it Chapter 11 or 13? Either way I just hope they do come back in some form and continue their design efforts, especially in the P25 Phase II arena and new models in general.
I guess all we can do is wait and see but after several years now I still LOVE my PSR-600 and use all my scanners every day. Heck even my much older GRE analog scanners still get daily use (Pro-2006, 2035 & 2042). These were some of GRE's finest models of their time, so like everyone else, I hope they can reorganize and get back into the market.
Fingers crossed here...

Confirmed Lindsay's Post
We have talked to GRE America directly early this week and I can confirm what Lindsay and Jeff have passed along is true in virtually every aspect. The recently-announced PSR900 will not be released and their popular scanner preamp is discontinued as well. They will continue to provide inventory until current stock runs out (several hundred pieces of most models), after which they will support warranty returns, repairs, and PSR-800 updates here in their U.S. location. The newest PSR800 software is now available for download.
Neither Radio Shack nor Uniden has shown any interest in picking up the product line. GRE is exploring the possibility of another investor taking over, but not continuing the GRE name.
Although Alinco will continue to manage the U.S. operation, the discontinuation of GRE products will have no effect on the Alinco product line.

Weird to release the biggest new development in scanner world, Phase-2 TDMA capability, then pack up shop. I wonder if any of the amateur radio makers like ICOM, Yeasu or Alinco would care to snap up the scanner market with products that trunk, decode Phase1,2? I'd love an ICOM-grade P25 scanner!
Whatever happens I hope Uniden continues developing new products but doesn't get greedy by jacking up prices in a market they own!

I wonder how this will effect the data base updates for the 800? I assume GRE pays RR for the use of RR's data base and if GRE goes out of business then what happens to the payments? I can see my $400 scanner becoming a paper weight in a few years.

Bummer to see this may be the end of the GRE line,,even if they re-brand..may take a while for the new name sake to find a base...
if anything,,hopefully some of those employees that were dismissed are forwarding their resume's to Uniden, or Alinco,(id love to see an alinco radio that trunked!)
Also hoping that what ever goodies/new firmware releases will get put out since they are wrapping up that area...

I guess because of this RadioShack won't be selling their scanners (Pro-106, Pro-197) anymore. Since GRE made them. I hate that.

This also means that more than likely no firmware updates from Radio Shack either since they get theirs from GRE for the Pro 106/197.....

Really feel sorry for the employees who are now looking at being unemployed. I am sure we all know of a neighbor, friend, or relative who has lost their job and the pain and frustration they have and are going through. My thoughts and Prayers to these follks, God Bless.

GRE out of business
If this proves to be true I hope Uniden will grab some of GRE's digital decoding technolgy ,since GRE was years ahead in that arena & also to eliminate some of the annoying audio issues ,clicking & popping at the end of trunked transmissions when using ext speakers and in the case of of the HomePatrol even allowing a provision for a ext speaker. Overall I prefer the Unidens but each brand has their pros & cons just as most things in life.

Hi Don.
Not only does this have a horrible impact on those employees let go in Japan and here in the US, but I feel for your loss of billed hours with your support of the product line and potential drop in numbers of those who will be purchasing your software in the future.
When something like this happens, it affects MANYpeople, from direct employees to consultants and contractors and companies that make and supply accessories for the products.
So Don.., any insight on "why" this happened? What precipitated this event? Was it just a lack of sales due to the downturn of the Global economy or corporate Mismanagement... or what ?
It was a very well kept secret... usually there is some leaked news about such a possibility.
Thanks, Tim.
