Default Lincoln, NE - Pricey state radio system catches static on reliability

LINCOLN, Neb. — By the time a State Patrol SWAT team had arrived on a quiet June morning, a drug addict had already shot up an Alliance, Neb., pharmacy, taken the owner hostage and wounded a local police officer.

You should not be useing a repeated channel for a swat call out... 1 every news person countywide would here you. 2 Simplex works best in a situation were you are close. No worries about getting out...

ame goes for a fire ground. I think is dumn to use a repeated fire ground. On a big fire on a business... you may have 20 fireman there but they are never more than 1000 ft away. And command can monitor the disptach channel..

You are 1000% correct, especially when you are on a system that is built out for mobile coverage.

This system is still not completely built out, and is currently a "mobile" system so-to-speak. There is a large gap between North Platte and Lincoln, and lowband is still used in other places.

The programming templates have also been moved around quite a bit. From people who I have spoken to, it seems like someone was pressured to get subscribers on it without thinking some other aspects out on the system in a structured fleetwide thoughtout manner.

I don't understand how a state like Colorado can use a p25 system (in much harder terrain) and have half the problems as some of the other states. This is not to say that in some areas they don't have obstacles to over come, but in an area like Nebraska this should be easy.
