Washington State Patrol gets eight month extention for narrowbanding

The Washington State Patrol breathed a sigh of relief Wednesday when it was granted a eight-month extension to switch to a digital radio system. The new deadline is Aug. 1 — not New Year’s Day.

I get such a kick out of the lack of common sense.

When agencies like this haven't had to money to get "into the 21st century", and still using old equipment that isn't even narrowband capable and they have to find replacement parts at auction, can you imagine the shape that system is going to be in 20 years from now??? If they haven't been able to even keep up their existing analog VHF system, just wait until this one starts needing replacement parts.

I wish I could send them all those radios we have in Iberia parish for the new 700 mhz system. Maybe the shiper could "lose" all the encryption software on the way up there.
