Nextel Communications co-founder Morgan O'Brien is proposing re-packing the 900 MHz land mobile radio band into a 2x2 MHz segment of 160 LMR channels and 3x3 MHz segment for business LTE. This would be a "Private Land Mobile Broadband" separate from commercial wireless carriers and the public safety "D block" at 700 MHz. Potential users might be large industries and public utility providers desiring features such as traffic priority that aren't available on commercial networks.
