Default Server Project

I just went to a local auction and picked up 2 dell blade servers that are 3.0ghz dual core with 4gb of RAM on each processor.

I want to build a communications based server that will support RoIP and Trunking Decoding and other RoIP Related operations.

I am looking for suggestions on a good operating systems that will support RoIP and Triple Screen Operations and Scanner feeding over IP.

I would like to ultimately create a nationwide RoIP Club if anyone is interested in helping me figure out the build out a little bit?

Did you buy the container for the blades as the blades can't be run without them?

I ended up getting 2 Dell PowerEdge 2950, But i am not sure i ordered the right Chassis for it, i ordered the M1000 Chassis. I believe it has a 10 day return policy.

They are both 3.0ghz with dual core 16GB RAM, 2x73 PERC, 5i

What would be a good low cost or free linux or free OS to put on it? I am also attach to it for extra storage between both servers.

I am ordering a dual screen spliter this week, but still in search of 2 matching screens and a 32 in TV with VGA or DVI.

I would like to run RoIP Applications, as well as a scanner feed, and build my own website, I want to add a Desktrac VHF and UHF Spectra P25 Conventional radios in a 19" rack for monitoring and transmitting purposes.

I was thinking of adding an internal rack fan to keep this all cool.

I am looking for any suggestions.

I got $3200 more than i thought in my taxes this year, so i am putting that extra into a radio project that is professional.

I would return the M1000 chassis(for M series blades),the 2950's are regular servers(I would get a small rack if you are only going to have 2 or buy a full one for future use) and not blades, and take your pick of linux flavored OS(are you familar with running a linux OS?) And check this out for ROIP: XIPAR - The Open Source Amateur Radio Over IP Project | Everything You Need to Do Everything You Want.

I put the servers up on eBay and got $100 for each of the, So in turn with this $200 i want to invest into 2 small rack servers, and a rack for them, I want to have about 6 slots because i want to put in the 2 Astro Spectra Desktracs in the 19" rack and 2 servers and possibly 1 or 2 more slots for future enhancement.

I was looking for a Linux OS that will support Server use. I want to have access to the internet, Scanner and radio software, and website development. We want to host and build our own domain and be able to post videos, pictures and have a live streaming feed.

We also want to host scanner feeds down the line and have RoIP capability.

It sounds like a tall order, but we are building it in phases as we get the equipment, but i would like some good solid state servers for continuous use that i can integrate all of the above to.
