Default DVD broke inside my cd/dvd drive

I was installing a program when the dvd broke inside the drive. I remove most of the pieces should I replace the drive.

if the LASER assembly is intact, run a good CD/DVD and if it reads the disc fine, then no you do not need to replace anything. if it is a burner, try to burn both a CD and a DVD and see if the drive is still functioning properly. hopefully nothing is wrong with the drive, but disc bursting tends to be destructive to the delicate LASER assembly

Wirelessly posted (Moto Droid Bionic: Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 4.0.4; en-us; DROID BIONIC Build/6.7.2-223_DBN_M4-23) AppleWebKit/534.30 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/534.30)

If a part within the drive came loose to scar that DVD, I'd just replace the drive. Hardware is cheap...

LOL Trund you beat me!!

chances are the disc just had a deep scratch and the extreme centrifugal forces caused it to fly apart. ive never heard of a disc drive losing pieces and causing this to occur. its usually a weak spot in the disc itself and not the drive flying apart. either way, if the warranty of the drive is expired i would pop open the entire drive and check for smaller fragments of the disc just to be sure that nothing is there.

Default DVD broke inside my cd/dvd drive

I found lots of pieces including a cut to the ribbon cable which had a small piece of the disk. I just order a hp 1260i drive which is a sata type connection and I needed a ide connection type drive so I also order in eBay a sata to ide bridge board, the drive I order from bestbuy should get here on Monday and the bridge board also. I will let you know how it works.

well i personally would have steered you towards a Asus DVD Burner, they are very nice and apparently the fastest drives on the market.

ASUS Model DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS 24X DVD Burner - Bulk Black - Newegg.com

i have 2 of these drives, and i have never burned discs faster than these.

another + to these drives, they have multiple (3) lasers in the assembly. if one laser fails to read through a scratch, the other two may have success. MultiRead is the name of this feature.

Default DVD broke inside my cd/dvd drive

A friend has this hp dvd1260i drive but he has the sata connector. This drive reads and writes fast. My computer is older and uses the 40pin ide cable and the drive I brought uses the sata connection that is why I had to buy the bridge board I hope it works fine with no problems. The bridge board is in Texas arrived here today and will be drop off with my mail box on Monday. The drive arrived to the store bestbuy today I will pick it up on today.
