453.150 Encryption ??

I live In Eastern Ct & Have Some Windam County Freqs In My 996 Mobile & My Question Is This.

453.150 Is Listed As Eastern Ct St University Police. FCC Also Lists Wolcott Ct also

Hearing Alot Of Encryption On This Freq, It Might Still Be ECSU Police Possibly, But For a Small College PD To Encrypt?? Wolcott Simply Too Far Away Assumably, Since I Catch This Freq Alot When I'm Mobile In The Manchester Area.

Any Ideas As To What This Might Actually Be Anyone??

Wolcott PD uses this freq with full time encryption so you may very well be hearing them. It makes the most sense.

Your welcome. I think Wolcott cranked up the power on it when they switched to digital/encryption. Unfortunately for me that means I can't hear them anymore unless I am at the ambulance station.

Full blown encrption 24/7 Only people with access to the the freq is PD, FD, and EMS

Digital can travel far away. I can hear Wilton ENC here in Huntington/Shelton.

Do they lock the fd/ems radios when you're in station and unlock when neccesary? I thought the whole idea was for the police and the police only to hear their comms? LOL ENC. What a joke!

When they found that body in Milford, NC8 was already there. So much for keeping the media from showing up! And they had all the info anyway!

The radios, both mobiles and portables have the freq unlocked and monitorable/tansmittable (are those real words?) 24/7. We usually keep our radios on scan between our freq as well as the FD and PD freqs. This way we get a jump on medical calls since PD gets dispatched first. The FDs radios work the same way, we can all talk and listen to each other.

More than likely the police either allow them to have the encryption key loaded into their agency radio...

What type of radios do you guys happen to use? Thats nice that you are able to scan the PD FD EMS frequencies all using the same radio.

I also agree with N3obl that the pd would probably allow them to program in the encryption key. I wouldn't see a problem with the FD and EMS radios having the encryption key. The only issue I would see is a person with the fd or ems finding out the encryption key and passing it around, but then again the same could happen in the pd

The radios are property of the town and are programmed by the town so they don't actually belong to the EMS or FD. We all use XTS 1500 portables (the kind with the display but no keypad.) And XTL 2500 mobiles

That's interesting that all the radios are property of the town and are programmed by the town. I take it that the PD owns their own radios? How do you guys like using the XTS1500 and the XTL 2500?

I personally love the new radios...anything beats the old bricks we used to have. Also considering that FD used to be lo-band simplex the UHF repeater is a huge improvement. They also exteded our coverage by adding two additional antenna sites throughout the town. And EMS has a remote recieve site at Campion HQ in Waterbury so that helps as well.

Before I left for the summer there were some audio issues as well as some phone line issue with the repeater. There were times when we had to use the Campion dispatch freq as a backup (we have all the Campion and CMED freqs in our radios) Not sure if those issues were completely resolved, but I'll be back next week so I'll find out then.

That's nice that they upgraded the low band system to UHF. How long ago did they do the upgrade?In Wolcott is EMS part of the FD or is it separate?
