Default New member Wethersfield/Hartford Line Intro and Questions for locals?

Hi and I have to say what a great group this is. I am a 51yo Navy Vet that recently wound up in a wheelchair from my injuries. With that said, I have revived some old hobbies and scanning radio transmissions is one I enjoyed.

I was a power plant engineer in Navy, worked in that field for years until it became too physical. I retrained myself for IT and computers and worked for Computer consulting companies doing anything that came my way.

I picked up a used Uniden BCD396t scanner and am using bctool. I have a Dell Studio XPS laptop with Vista64 and used the Radio Shack Gigaware USB to Serial cable. It worked great and I was able to find some local town files to upload and like magic I am hearing all sorts of cool stuff.

I had a few questions:

1. Wethersfield is on Motorola II Trunked system, I found the details in the database and inputted what I thought was correct details in correct fields. Well it seems I messes something up because I do not hear any Wethersfield calls. Any locals do this already? Any help or guidance is appreciated.

2. State Trooper Helicopter is at Brainard Airport (3-4 miles away), the Heli does flights directly over my house all the time, I did not see any details on that....is it called something different or not there maybe?

Again thanks and glad to be here and hope some locals are around to offer help.

Regards

Rich

First of all, Let me say welcome to radioreference, Secondly, The 396 you have is an excellent scanner, as it will also do the state police P25 system.

The state trooper helicopter is known as trooper 1, Not sure if they have more than one, But they talk on channel 49 of the trunked radio system they use.

As far as the Wethersfield system is concerned, The only time I programmed it in was by hand, Then by using Butel software, Which I still have.

If you're interested, I'd be willing to program your BCD396T for you, Absolutely free.

If you want, Shoot me a private message and I will see what I can do to help you out, As I am very familiar with thwe BCD396T.

Somewhat steep learning curve on this scanner, But an excellent piece of equipment once you get a good handle on it.

CSP's helo is called Trooper 1 as Subject stated and it is the only helo operated by the CSP. They also operate two single engine fixed wing planes out of Brainard as well. On the CSP system Ch-49 they are "Air 7" and "Air 8" I beleive. There is also another thread unde the CT section here where a member stated Air 7 & 8 goes by the call sign on the air band as "Nutmeg 1" and "Nutmeg 2". Have to check the thread for the correct designations in case I am wrong.

Also in Hartford LifeStar is also based out of Hartford Hospital and can be heard on the MedNet frequency of 155.34. They also have thier own dispatch frequency which is in the database.1

Wethersfield works just fine in my BC396T with arc butel. I always try to use control channel only I have good luck with that. So Far W. Hartford is the only exception because they keep changing the control channel every day at midnight...If u need any files I have just about everything in the Hartford area in my scanner. drop me a line. Glad to help..

Rich,

Sorry I missed this thread until now... I live in Wethersfield and would be happy to help you out if you still need it. Send me a PM if you're still having trouble with the programming.
