What is on the disk? Did you look?
Anyway there's a lot of information here to get you started. To begin with, this series of radios does not use 'banks' in the conventional sense. It takes a bit to get your head wrapped around this concept but once it does, you'll find that programming is much more flexible.
I would start by reading the Uniden DMA FAQ that we have in our wiki. Float your mouse over to the blue toolbar under the logo and point it to
Wiki. Select
FAQs then click on the
Uniden DMA FAQ from the list. At the bottom of that article is a series of links to the 'Easier to Read' manuals. Although we don't have one listed for the XT series, the 996 manual is close enough to get you started.
Many will tell you to get a premium subscription and use software to download data from the databases, and that is a decent way to get started. Returning to the toolbar, float your mouse over
About then click on
Premium Subscription (it's quite cheap).
As for software - start with the free stuff - namely, FreeScan, whose user manual we also have in the wiki. In the wiki pulldown, click on
Software then click on the
Freescan User Guide to read up on the software. The link to the website is in the top paragraphs, in blue (all links in this site, whether on the wiki or here are in blue). FreeScan can import ARC (BuTel software) and UASD (Uniden's software - they don't have one for the XT series) files, and this is yet another way to get started.
Finally, Uniden has their own wiki article on the 996XT here...
