Default Wolcott PD Encryption

Rumor has it that Wolcott PD will stop encrypting their transmissions in the near future. It seams the new Chief feels that if you have nothing to hide then let the taxpayers listen if they want. What a refreshing view. They can still turn encryption on for tactical purposes, but how often will that be in Wolcott.

That's nice that the chief is taking that point of view.

Does anything actually happen in Wolcott? Odd that such a small town would even consider encryption.

[That's how the Fed's do it that I have heard in CT... Encryption isnt at the convenience of the listener. they could leave it that way.

Do you still need a digital scanner to receive them or any FM scanner?

Nice to know they can be monitored again. I only wish others would follow, such as Southbury. I also like the fact that when they tone out the FD, they simulcast the voice (not the tones) over the PD since the FD repeater isn't very strong at all just over the border into Cheshire, not to mention has the lowest audio I've ever heard.

As far as Wolcott FD is concerned make sure you have the modulation set properly. They operate NFM if you listen to them in FM mode you may hear lower audio levels than you should. This is not to say that the system is just not properly optimized, but check the mode first.

Default Wolcott Fire

Not only is my BCD996XT set to NFM, I have the volume offset set to its highest level (+3) to get it fairly even with the rest of the frequencies programmed.
