Default Norwich Police Radio Upgrade.

According to the Norwich Bulletin newspaper The NPD was awarded a $43,828 grant Wednesday to purchase and upgrade radio systems and equipment at the Norwich Police Department, according to the Department of Justice. Police will use the money to upgrade equipment by purchasing new receivers, antennas, console interfaces and a base station.

Any feedback on this would be appreciated.

It's about time. Seems like Norwich is the only town around here with an ancient radio system.

Doesn't sound like much for an entire PD radio system upgrade though. Maybe adding additional equipment perhaps???

Aren't they currently on a low band radio system?

Yep, still low band but they are also looking to move out of their current building and into a larger facility. But I have not heard much on that as of late. So I wonder what's going to come first, the move or the upgrade.

Default Npd

NPD has no plans to change their radio system to a different band (unfortunately). The upgrades are adding more voting receivers for the current system on 39.900.

They have recently installed 800 MHz radios in the cruisers for the CSPERN and ITAC frequencies. The 10 watt radios probably will work better then the "band-aid on the 5 inch pipe leaking from several places system" they have now.

peace-out

That's surprising that they aren't upgrading to either VHF-hi or UHF or even 800 MHz. Are they still going to use their same type of consoles? Thats nice that all of the cruisers have 800 MHz radios for CSPERN and ITAC?
