CT State Police question
I will be traveling through CT (95 all the way from NY to RI). How would I program my scanner for the trip?
Do I program all the trunk freqs in one bank, or do I need to have seperate banks for each simocast?
Which troops cover the length of Rte 95?
Thanks to all who respond.

Troop G will cover from the NY state line to about New Haven and Troop F will cover to roughly Old Lyme and Troop E will take you to the RI state line. Although maps online show Troop I covering part of your route, they no longer cover 95. You really only need three talkgroups to cover your trip.

First double checking CT State Police Is digital. You need three control freq. One from Troop G simulcast, One from Troop F simulcast and one from Troop E. Simulcast. If u have a uniden scanner u can put in on search instead of scan. That way u really dont have to prgm TG in since u are only passing trhough unless u want to put them in. Happy Scanning.

Some of the towns are incorrect on this map now...ie Southbury is Troop A and Waterbury is Troop A for at least the I-84 corridor and Troop I no longer does I-95 corridor. Those were at a quick glance

Troop G does I-95 from the NY line through Branford. Troop F covers I-95 from Guilford to Old Lyme. And troop E covers I-95 the rest of the way to the RI border. Troop I does not cover any of I-95.

Enter "Connecticut State Poliice" in the search box on page left then click on go, when the CSP site pops up click on the multicolored state map on the left.

I used to be a dispatcher at Troop I and this is correct. However Troop I does cover I-91 down to Exit 3 and also covers the towns from Milford to East Haven Mutual aid and Major Crime requests. Also they will respond to I-95 upon a request from Troop G. All comms though will be on Troop G's frequency. If your just driving through and not going to hop on any of the other highways or stop in the New Haven area, you do not need to have Troop I in the scanner.

Whichever troop covers that geographic area. No "highway only" sections like G has on 95. Keep in mind, Rte 15 is only the "Merritt Parkway" in Fairfield County. Once you hit Milford, it's the "Wilbur Cross Parkway". Troop G has Rte 15 (Merritt) from the NY border to the Stratford/Milford line on the Sikorsky (Housatonic River) Bridge. Troop I has it from Milford into Meriden (Wilbur Cross) probably until it merges with Rte 5 to be the Berlin Turnpike. The sections of 15 north of Meriden are all in Troop H.

And easy way to avoid that quandary is to avoid the Merrit all together. The piece of road is the most terrifying stretch road I have ever seen. Assuming you survive the merge from the on-ramp, you will probably be killed by traffic, a falling tree, or attempting the off-ramps.

North of Meriden Its not really a highway anymore. Have 10,000 stop lights. I beleive the local towns serve it first. Like Berlin, Newington, Wethersfield. Troop H patrols also...

Route 15 is covered by Troop G from the NY boarder to the Sikorsky Memorial Bridge aka the "Steel Bridge" to the Stratford line of the bridge. The Troop I covers from the Milford side of the "Steel Bridge" up to the end of the Expressway where it meets with Route 5. At the point where it becomes Route 5, it is no longer a parkway it is covered by the local town police departments until it becomes a state highway again up in the Hartford area, in which Troop H covers it.
Also the Parkway is called the Meritt from NY (where its called the Hutchison or "The Hutch") up to the Orange / Milford town line where it is named the Wilbur Cross Parkway. Way back when, the "name change line" was New Haven at the tunnel through West Rock in New Haven. Every thing north of there was the "Wilbur" and sout was the "Merritt". The sometime after that since the "new section" of 15 was from Route 34 heading north, this was considered the line, then told everything on the New Haven County side was the "Wilbur". Needless to say depending who you talk to, you will get a different answer.
But its a safe bet of you say "The Merrit" or the "parkway" you'll be okay and people will know what your talking about. But if you say "Wilbur Cross" about half of the people will know what you are talking about.
Got to love it huh?

Dude!
You have me almost all confused and I lived here all my life!.. For a person who has no clue about this state and is traveling through, its best to just call it what it is, Route 15 and just indicate wether they want north or south. Its too confusing any other way...

I never really pay much attention to the exact name, the most important part for me is coming back from NY to remember that it's the Hutchinson or else I miss the exit!

Route 15 works too.
It's a pretty fast road, but I find it moves a lot faster than 95, which it sort of parallels from New Haven to the NY line.
By faster, I mean traffic flows better, not that cars drive like wicked fast on that scenic road. You know, it's not like anyone has ever blown by me at 80 in the right lane!

Depending on the time of day, Route 15 from the Trumbull exit 48 area all the way up to the Stamford line, it CAN get very hectic and bumper to bumper. Still a nicer ride than I-95.

Thanks for all the replies. I think I know what I need to listen to with my earphones while wife sleeps. LOL
I have the BCD396. Each troop that I want to listen to (E,F, &G) has 5 frequencies in the database. Can I put all 15 freqs in one system, or do I need 3 seperate systems - one for each troop.
I'll probably program the talkgroups. I use ARC396 for fast programming of it.
Thanks for any resaponce. I leave tomorrow morning.

You can program them in one system the only problem is that if you lose the control channel from one troop the scanner will not look for another one until you turn it off and back on. Otherwise you should be ok.
