Nice! On FCC listed as a Freq. reg. to Waterbury as Antenna site. I saw nothing else? Just really started picking this LTR thing. I do have the whole State PD running on my primary scanner. Must admit these run the most action.

Tell ya what I use PSR 600 on a discone for base. Get Waterbury PD Fire and town public works. In my mobile I too have a top mount ant. Works good. Using Pro 18 with a duck and it too is pretty good. 800 band is so clear with State Pd wish for Christmas Waterbury would save a couple of million and go with the State PD system....Come on Santa I have been really good all year except all the money I spent getting into scanning! Last thing you, using the list of 9 freq's listed on site?

Congrats on that fine new scanner. Is that the same basic thing as the RS 106 or even more awesome?

I would expect that it will be similar to the current talkgroup layout with the ability for some kind of access for certain conventional units.

Thankx Noob..........Picked it up at the Hamfest last weekend! Good deal on it too. As far as I can tell the 600 and 106 are pretty close. So far what I love is the key pad so I can quickly enter channels. I haven't had time to do any updates. Nice thing on it is you can setup alerts to flash different colors. Keep ya posted.

Waterbury Radio System
The system Waterbury has now goes down everytime there is a thunderstorm. It went down about five times this summer.
I have been trying to follow this new system and have some questions that someone may be able to answer. Does this new system require a digital scanner to receive or can the older conventional trunked scanners be used? Does anyone know if the system will be encrypted? Will we be able to hear the individual departments like years ago or will we still need to dissect each department out of the total radio traffic of all departments?
Based on the lousy volume and static on the current system I can't say I'm unhappy about the change coming up next year.

Here is what I found so far. This link is for EFJ. EFJOHNSON Awarded $4-Million Contract To Deploy Waterbury, Connecticut Radio Communications System -- IRVING, Texas, Sept. 4, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
I must agree not impressed on the static that's on my end too. As for digital can't believe for the price of the new system it would be Analog. As Encryption, there is no mention, the publication is useful for some of the info we all are looking for. Take a look. If you find anything more post it here so we all stay updated. Looks like sometime 2013 they flip the switch on it so we will have answers once and for all when this happens...............

The new system will be P25 digital and not analog. A P25 trunk system is trunktrackable with a scanner that does the 9600 baud digital trunking systems. They will still be a trunked system so if you choose to monitor it using conventional channels on a digital scanner, you will hear everyone and digital noise when the PD talks.
A current system user who usually has decent info on the Waterbury communications indicated the police will be 100% encrypted.

I like to listen to the fire department. Hopefully they don't go encrypted too. Are you saying that with a certain scanner that monitors the 9600 band that you can listen to each department separately? And with a conventional digital scanner you listen to all of the communications like now?

The new system will be a P25 Trunked System. P25 refers to a Standard for radio systems. This will be 9600 BAUD control channel (as opposed to 3600 baud like the CSP). Some older digital scanners may not be able to trunktrack but should be able to monitor the digital traffic in conventional (as opposed to trunked) mode.
They will still use the 800 MHz BAND (existing frequencies) for the system.

Chris, still going to use the exact same freq's? Also can you explain the 3600/9600 baud like CSP? Please.

CSP runs an analog data channel and digital voice, the P25 standard has a digital data channel and digital voice. The P25 stream contains more bits of information per second than the older data channels.
Same channels they are currently licensed on. Any new equipment is 700 & 800 MHz capable so they can change down the road but for now I would listen for any data channel traffic on the existing 9 main channels.
Waterbury is not even close to be the first to use P25, searching this site or the internet has lots of information.

You guys here are a wealth of know how! I am always impressed. As I am really still new to all this. Not anything like the old days I came from in the 70's. My first CB maybe had 10 channels and all tubes. Sonar I think. I also had an old scanner with crystals!......thankx
