Default Hamden,CT (CSPERN) Woman screaming for help over radio

Just heard a woman come over the CSPERN channel around 1:00am screaming and crying "somebody help me, somebody help me" a few times like her life depended on it. Also sounded like she was struggling to get away from someone or fight them off. Rape maybe? It scared the crap out of me! Then she came back on the radio a few seconds later screaming "your in f'in trouble now" a couple of times at a guy in the background after she gave an address in Hamden over the radio. Troop F and East Lyme PD were trying to contact her during it all. Anyone else hear this or know what was going on?

Probably someone joking around again. CSPERN has become a real wasteland of open mikes and strange sounds. Somebody at the administrative level needs to get a handle on the situation. What a waste of a statewide radio channel.

Nothing to admin on it... Its a conventional radio channel. People have been playing with that for years now. Best thing to do is ignore it...

Someone messing around? Could be, no argument there at all but it sounded legit if you ask me. What I'm wondering is, how would a woman civilian get a hold of a 800mhz radio and transmit on CSPERN to jerk around? Off duty cop? Didnt sound like it. Wasn't using codes or anything. Just screaming for help like in a horror movie. If you heard it you would understand.

I wonder what was going through her head. I'll just get on CSPERN instead of calling 911.

Think of this logically.

What are the chances that:

1-Your not going to dial 911
2-Your in the area to grab a portable radio in a portable coverage area (its a mobile coverage system)
3-You put the radio on CSPERN
4-Chances that the radio is already on CSPERN (which is typically in a mutal aid zone or obscure channel that is not 1 or 16)
5-Not going to give out where you actually are in dire need

People have been screwing with CSPERN just like they do on WMLEC. The NCC knows what tower it was coming off of and have a good idea by tower use where the abusers are and things are in the works to narrow down the offending transmitters.

I've met quite a few females (more than males) on the job that are GREAT actors and have and will do anything to be very convincing in screwing around or trying to get out of trouble. You'd be surprised at what people/kids/jamocks/skell's will do these days to get attention.

Does CSPERN stand for Connecticut State Police Emergency Radio Network?

This happens more often than not. When I used to work as C-MED, we would get a few of these every so often. Usually they were transmitted over a lost or stolen radio by an .............idiot we'll say for lack of a better term (and family oriented). Plus to you would get someone who would program a radio and try to jam us.

Hopefully it was just someone that wasn't in danger but again, still caused enough concern to justify a response. I haven't heard anything on the local boards nor in the news in the past few days related to something remote to what was transmitted.

Default Mystery Solved

I guess the odds are pretty good!

CTNOW.com:

HAMDEN—

A 37-year-old woman caused more than $5,000 damage to the police department's detention area Saturday by damaging the sprinkler system, flooding the cellblock and booking area, and biting the buttons off an electronic control panel, police said.

Lonna Leak also spit on a Hamden firefighter and urinated on the floor of a cell, police said.

The incident began shortly after midnight Saturday when police went to 18 Cross St. for a report of loud music.

Leak was arrested and put inside a police car, where she got access to the police radio and "began interfering with police communications," a release states.

She kicked an officer who tried to stop her, police said.

She was brought to police headquarters and was put in a padded cell after she spit on the firefighter, police said. In the cell, she bit the padding, urinated on the floor and tried to flood the room. She was then put in another cell, which she flooded by damaging the sprinkler system.

She was moved out of that cell and into the booking area, where she damaged the control panel, police said.

She faces two counts of assault on a police officer, interfering with police, first-degree criminal mischief, second-degree criminal mischief and second-degree breach of peace.

Why was the officer on CSPERN? That explains the whole thing now. Thanks doctordialtone.

Is there an archive recording of this out there somewhere? I noticed the article this morning and saw the mention of her using the radio, but all I could find listed was Hamden FD. Is Hamden PD listed, or are they part of another feed?

It was just her screaming cutting in and out. People wouldn't stream CSPERN anyways because it is always open mics with the three beeps every however many seconds to let them know they have an open mic, but the open mic continues.

Maybe the radio was in scan mode and when she keyed the mic it just so happened to stop and transmit on that channel? Thanks for the information. That explains it all. Heres the exact link.... Woman Causes $5,000 Damage To Police Station After Arrest, Police Say - CTnow

There were a couple of us listening to this in West Haven and were heard the thing almost from the beginning. I just looked up the ladys charges and didnt see reckless on it which surprised me. Troop F did a great job of tracking down where the call was originating from. The thing here is this, As someone posted this lady could have been being raped, etc, but worse than that, this could have been an officer being injured in a wreck or even god forbid shot and this system is heard statewide. Usually we'll hear cspern locked and a plain ole conversation overheard and we'll ignore that, but how do you ignore an apparent plea for assistance. I'm sure there were officers worried that one of their own was in trouble and that makes for problems. While the system is designed great as far as distance covered,it's stuff like this that makes it a bad thing
