Lightbulb New Haven County Public Safety...

Thinking about getting a group together called "New Haven County Public Safety" I own a UHF repeater system in New Haven that I plan on upgrading to a 100 watt UHF p25/analog mixed system. I own the site and tower that its on currently and I'm also looking for a new hosting location, For now I will leave it where it is. It covers all of New Haven and a good part of the surrounding towns. My company uses it very little and I would like to see it get a bit more use.

My plans are to open another NAC/PL for the group to use. As of right now I'm planning it on ONLY being open to Public Safety personnel.... Police,Fire,Ems,Dispatchers, ect.

I want to make it clear that this would not be a notification or paging group... just a system thet everyone could use to b.s on and pass along information.

It would also be a free membership.... I'm not looking to get any $ out of this... I would require some information as far as how your are affiliated with Public Safety,Name, ect. I don't want the system to be a public repeater that everyone and their mother thinks they can use.. I would make a system where we all had Id's that you use and possible use MDC if your radio has that feature in it.

I'm going away on vacation for a week starting this Saturday so ill see what kind of comments this gets.

Looking for a head count of how many of you would be interested?

How many have radios with P25?

What towns are you guys in?

I will post a coverage map of my current system as soon as i get back.

I look forward to hearing from all of you! Thanks

Sounds like a good idea. Will this be for active only personnel or can former or retired personnel join?
I know there are a few former active folks and retirees on here!

I live in the town of Durham and have pretty good mobile coverage off my new haven system. There are parts of main st I can use my portable as well. I'm pretty sure it starts to cut off after that. So no coverage in Middletown. If someone had a spot in Middlesex county I'd love to put up a repeater and link it to new haven!

Oh well, when it comes time for you to start this, ill still put everything in my radios as i spend alot of time right around where the fringe area of your repeater is, so who knows, maybe ill get lucky. At the very least ill be within the coverage area once in a while so i may just pop on and say hi.

I would suggest saying away from the P25 for now since a lot of people do not have that type of equipment. Maybe use a DCS tone instead for access to the analog portion?

It would spark my interests.

I'm back.... I'm going to be making a facebook page for the group and ill put an email on here that you guys can email if your interested in joining. I'm trying to think of a call sign/id system we could use so that everyone knows who's with what agency when they sign on the air. I was thinking something like cmed uses... Not sure yet, any suggestions would be great. maybe ill just keep it simple with a numbers system.

Ill add information on the Facebook group/ email to sign up later today. Thanks
