Default Norwich 911 question

I was wondering if anyone knows how 911 works in Norwich? I listen to Norwich dispatch and they handle all the 911 calls, but sometimes they will dispatch and say that the call came through American Ambulance. Now how is it that possible if Norwich dispatch handles all the 911 calls for that area? A patch problem? Phone operator mistake?

Are these only Medical Calls going thru American ?

Here in MA, many of the Municipalities contracted EMD with the local EMS Provider

As a dispatcher for American Ambulance I can answer this for you. All 911 calls do go into the Norwich police/fire dispatch center. However, most medical alarm companies, like Life Line, call us directly for emergencies. It is then that we will call Norwich on our direct line we have to them to start the fire department if they are needed. There are also some facilities in the city that will call our 10 digit emergency line to request an ambulance instead of calling 911. ( this drives me crazy). There are also time where calls will come in on our routine scheduling lines that are really emergencies. Again we call Norwich to start other resources if needed.

This happens all over the state, I'm sure. AMR & Nelson get a lot of calls from extended care facilities (nursing homes & rehab) for what the facility thinks is a routine transfer that actually codes out to be an emergency. Generally in these cases, the private ambulance company will call the CMED center that covers the area that facility is in then CMED will pass it to the appropriate PSAP to be dispatched.
