wow this was on on the e-edition of the watebury republican today Sunday August 4th 2013

WATERBURY -- The city's police union has warned that a roughly $4 million upgrade to the department's communications system -- used by officers to talk with dispatchers and each other -- could fail at a critical time.

The union is warning that the problems could jeopardize the safety of officers and the public. But police brass say those issues are being fixed and that they have several backup systems in place to guard against a communication failure.

The entire EF Johnson system has been an issue since they put it in. Too bad they dumped the 154.415 frequency. Over the weekend several mobile fire radios weren't transmitting. Does anyone know if the installers are still working on the system or have they considered it complete?

You have a system that was never designed correctly from the start worked on by a local company that has very little experience in serviceing P25 truking systems trying to make the system work from the same locations the old system didn't work.

New Brittan's new 3 site TDMA P25 Motorola system was in the 4 mil range and they got all new mobile and portable radios.

Waterbury is paying the same and they had new radios already from rebandiing and the sites were already built out, they only had to replace the equipment....Why so much???

Wink Waterbury PD.

Just a tip for all my brother scanner buffs. Waterbury police use E.F. Johnson Ascend ES Portables.

I been monitoring Waterbury'ssystem extensively, mainly fire and police and during the snow Saturday I monitored the other services- I have my scanner in search for ids instead of scanning just the ids in the system I confirmed and labeled. Today 12-16-13 talk group id 21 became very active but they been testing it on and off during the past month, and today they were using it to dispatch units with unit identifications of echo 1 and 2 foxtrot. 1 and 2 golf 1 and 2 hotel 1 and 2 and oscar 1 - and 2'they were doing calls but were using this instead of dispatch 1 which units on there are alpha ,bravo,Charlie and delta units 1-6.

It's definatly a channel used for special ops as far as I can tell and submitted it in the data base as that unless I find out different.its not a dispatch channel since they have 2 of them And dispatch 1 is for calls and dispatch 2 is for motor vehicle and license info, I am wondering if it's for the new recruits they hired and are out there with their training officer,if anyone has any other info they would like to add or knows any Waterbury officers and can get more info that would be awesome.
