Default Alpha Tags

Who is responsible to the "alpha tags"? After comparing many of what is in the database, they definitely do NOT match up with what the various agencies have on their radios. I find it really hillarious that some agencies still use radio's like GM300 & Maxtracs that have NO alpha tags.

Many times departments use only a select few channels so the tags aren't needed. After all they DO have channel numbers.

The people who submit the info and the db admins. It has been explained in the past that you arent supposed to put what the radios list since often those are agency specific. One agency's radios might list a particular interop talkgroup as INTEROP and another might list the same talkgroup as COMMON. One agency might list their common fire channel as FIRE TAC and another might list it as TAC 2 or something else.

Talkgroup alpha tags should be tagged in a way that best describes the overall use of the talkgroup rather than what a particular agency has it listed as, since they do differ sometimes.

Of course that is my understanding and it makes sense.

With that said, i see a LOT of tags that are obviously taken right from an agency's radio, and I ahve seen submissions where the submitter submitted a list of the alpha tags programmed in an agency radio and then the associated talkgroup after having keyed up on each one and logging them.
