Highly recommend that you exit I-95 at DE 896 (southbound) or Maryland 279 (northbound) and take local roads to bypass the toll plaza. The $4.00 toll is outrageous enough without the wasted gas creeping along for fifteen minutes or so.

True enough for the DE Turnpike but I've seen I-95 NB backed up beyond MD 279--long before the EZ Pass lanes split off.

When I'm going NB (usually to get to Rehoboth) I get off on MD 279, go north to Iron Hill Rd, drop south on Iron Hill which becomes Chestnut Hill Rd, turn right at the light onto Sandy Brae/Otts Chapel to Old Baltimore Pike; left on Old Baltimore Pike to 896.
