Default Dead carrier problem back in NCC since the storm

In New Castle County the dead carrier problem is back since the storm on Tuesday. You will notice that your scanner stops on a talk group but you only hear noise in the background. You can press RSM to get past it or you can wait until another transmission is assigned to that frequency. The talk group that is still displayed during the next transmission will not be the talk group of the transmission. Once the second transmission completes the scanner will revert back to normal operation. Expect the dead carrier problem to happen every 1 to 2 minutes and it seems to depend on how busy the system is. Now I know that NCC does not care about the operation of private scanners but what affect does this have on county radio operation besides constantly tying up one of the few frequencies? The Radio Shack scanner does not exhibit this problem although it may be skipping transmissions when it happens. It would be interesting to know what ultimately fixes it and why it takes so long. Note that the problem also has been happening on the Sussex county system all summer and they don’t appear ready to fix it. At least in NCC they eventually get around to fixing it…

Hello,

Welcome to the board The City of Wilmington was in FAILSOFT Mode Tuesday and Wednesday. NCCo Zone 1 was working fine in Southern NCCo. LifeNet affected the Fireboard with an open mike Thursday.

Repeaters that hang don't affect the users. However, if the AS3 or XTS3K is used in Scan Mode, it may have some effect. One of the members of the board contacts DIVCOM with issues. Sometimes they get fixed and sometimes they don't.

The PRO 96 will handle open repeaters on trunked systems well. Check the Delaware Forum for other posts in reference to your issue.

DIVCOM for NCC has been notified. Sussex county seems to be a lost cause. Towers in NCC affected are Talley Rd., Bissell, I-95, & Lums. Claymont and Smyrna are normal.
