Whatever happened to the proposed introduction of VHF Multi-Use
Radio into Canada? A while back someone suggested it had become
legal, but a search of Industry Canada's website and the web in
general doesn't turn up anything recent (later than 2006).

At the time, there was quite a bit of objection, mostly by FDs, about
taking frequencies, cost, interference etc.; largely justified I think. A
TAFL search shows a fair number of FD and commercial users still
on the frequencies, in Ontario, and across the country.

I don't see any equipment for sale in Canada, nor anyone using any
(that I know). There was supposed to be a phase-in period; or is it
just on the shelf?

IC's attitude is probably the same they took with FRS - we'll give you a new frequency, or you can stay but if you stay, you'll have to deal with the MURS interference.

Correct me if I'm wrong...wasn't it you who claimed not too long
ago that MURS had been introduced into Canada i.e. was legal?

Maybe my web search abilities aren't exceptional, but I don't see much
of substance after the 2005/6 flurry of objections from small-town FDs,
posted on IC's website. Many are from fire chiefs who granted are not all
technical people and sometimes their arguments aren't made strongly (or
they have some facts out of place); but given a toss between fire services
(and other bona fide interests) and a bunch of would-be VHF Chicken
Banders, I side with the former :)

TAFL search of the five frequencies is a bit odd. In some parts of the
country I don't see any listings; either there are no licenses, or they're
all for "secret" users. Perhaps they are being "cleared" by Industry
Canada? DND does operate in 148-152MHz as well as 173-174MHz
VHF so it might be a factor; in fact CFB Borden trunked system uses
one of the frequencies (151.880).

This doesn't affect me to speak of, there are lots of communication
alternatives, including the 22 UHF channels taken from business for
FRS/GMRS.
