Hi Folks,

I received my Monster alert this morning and there was a posting for a "Wireless Systems Technician, Technical Support Unit" for York Regional Police. I know that I would have loved this opportunity a couple of years ago, and thought some of you might too.

Job Description

York Regional Police
Position Summary
This position, reporting to the Sergeant of the Technical Support Unit, is responsible for providing technical support and expertise for the York Regional Police Voice and Data Communications Network.

Note: Successful candidate must be available for emergency support 24 hours/day 7 days/week and carry a cellular telephone and/or pager.


Position Requirements

Post secondary degree/diploma in Electronics/Telecommunications/ Computer Science, or an approved equivalent combination of education, training and experience
Minimum two years’ experience in the use and repair of RF voice/data communications networks, trunked two way radio systems, automotive wiring and electrical systems related to communications equipment, RF diagnostic equipment and software, troubleshooting and repair of micro computer systems including configuration and imaging procedures
Working knowledge of RF propagation and coverage techniques for mobile and fixed base antenna systems including microwave i.e. Simulcast, Voting, Enhancers, Antenna arrays, etc.
Working knowledge of and experience with analogue and digital communications linking systems
Ability to install, troubleshoot and repair Global Positioning Systems
Working knowledge of Windows XP, 2000, DOS, TCP/IP, Office Applications
Excellent oral and written communication skills to interact with all levels of management, staff, team members, YRP partners, stakeholders and equipment vendors
Valid Ontario class “G” Drivers License required
Position Scope
The duties for this position may involve but are not limited to:

Travel to York Regional Police locations, antenna sites or vehicle locations to organize, enhance, troubleshoot, install, diagnose, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on the voice and data communications network and associated infrastructure including fixed and mobile user gear, antenna systems, instruments and peripherals
Provide technical support to end users within York Regional Police and stakeholders (Fire/EMS)
Service and perform daily monitoring and scheduled preventative maintenance on the York Regional Police Communications Network and maintain up-to-date systems documentation, as required
Provide recommendations into policy development and work procedures relating to the York Regional Police Communications Network
Maintain an inventory of all related assets of the York Regional Police and stakeholders
Remain current with new developments in public safety communications standards, communications technology trends, networks, hardware and software and perform related testing and evaluation
Attend training courses, seminars and conferences and facilitate information sharing with team members
Liaise with hardware and software vendors and service contract partners
Maintain the integrity of our secure Communications Network system by ensuring compliance with approved security policies and procedures and remaining current with new advancements
Perform other duties as required within the scope of the Communications Technical Support Unit
Salary $59,720 (Band 5)
