Hey all!

I have a quick question, i have recently been taking to GO Train to work and listening in on the conductor on the way.. i keep hearing them refer to rail yards and mile markers.. does anyone have a relatively recent map of the CN Lakeshore West line - including mile markers and yards?

Any tips for listening to rail?

Regards,

Matt

Willowbrook is the only I know. That rail yard is just to the west of the Mimico station.
I think the section of track from Bayshore (where the CN & CP break apart from each other in western Hamilton)to Union is called Oakville Sub.

"Any tips for listening to rail?" you say ? The Canadian Trackside Guide is the bible of railways. It's published every year. I don't have the book and when I go to Chapters/Indigo they never have it. I like trains too, but rarely listen to their comms. This might have some info you might be interested in http://transit.toronto.on.ca/gotransit/2512.shtml

Path try going to the Train Show @ the International Centre near the airport, they should have a copy for sale or go here:
http://www.bytownrailwaysociety.ca/sales.htm to order a copy.

I agree with gwtc199,

Go directly to the Bytown Railway Society, other possibilities in the Toronto Area are Credit Valley Railway and Georges Trains.

I order a new Track Side Guide every two to three years and it works for what I need, the guide contains scaled down maps of each subdivision and large areas like toronto. It also includes mile markers along the way and train timetables.

Enjoy the hobby

From what I was told it is availabale only where Bytown Railway Society material is sold.

Hutches Train's in Burlington sells it. They used to be on Brant however they have moved and I'm not sure where in Burlington they went.

No problem WZ1, if your also looking for any places to do some train watching, I recommend Bayview. You get all of the railroads (CN, VIA, GO and sometimes CP) in just the one location. There is a footbridge just off of Plains Rd west in Burlington offers good views. And a small parking lot at Valley Inn Rd and York Blvd.

Is that the footbridge off Drury just east of Burlington GO?

If so it is actually off Fairview. Plains Road cuts out to the north of the tracks around Maple. Fairview ends around the Mapleview Mall.

Chapters/Indigo are run by a bunch of.... I better not say it, lol I deal with them on a daily basis.
They will pretty much only stock books that will sell, Heather likes it that way, Oprah stuff.
Rant over.

Try this place, it is very close to me

I still see a ad for Trains on Brant, I rarely go "downtown' but I think it is still there:

Modellers Choice seemed to impress my model hungry friend who loves Georges Trains

Its on the mountain in the Hammer

No it's west of Aldershot Stn, just as Plains Rd changes to York Blvd. Right at the Royal Botanical Gardens, give a great view of Bayview Jct. There is a nice little parking lot on the west side of the tracks. Last time I went there I saw 20 trains in 4 hours.
