This is something new that I keep hearing:

"Fire dispatch, engine 1A on the road in service belted."

or

"Engine 6 responding, 4 belted"

What is this? And why all the sudden?

This is has been going on for quite some time. Just an accountability thing that the men are all belted in.

I'm sure the fire engine crash that actually happened in Windsor last year has played a significant role in other deparments adopting this protocol.

I hear it all the time from the london fire service. Never herd it very much from Chatham Kent or Lambton when i use to listen to them.

We're Belted

It's not so much of an accountability thing, but more of what happened with George Copeland when the truck rolled a few years back. When the officer says eg. "1A's on the way, we're all belted". It's now been recorded on tape at dispatch and in the event something did happen they sort of have a record of it that they were all buckled in that rig. Safety now is number 1.

Some of the local FD use "buckled".

#1 cause of death or injury in the Fire Service has nothing to do with Firefighting. Accidents enroute to scene.
