A few questions for the group... I had to make a quick trip to Milton tonight and while I was there I had about a half hour to tinker with my Pro-106. A few questions I came up with...

1 - I was hearing encrypted P25 traffic on 867.4625 and 867.4875 (NAC 082). Anyone know who this belongs to?

2 - I found 867.7375 transmitting a solid tone in P25. Test channel of some sorts apparently?

3 - Found a Motorola trunked system on 862.4875 (SYSID A028). This isn't in the database... Anyone know who this is?

Thanks!

1) 867.4625 - TPS south tower - some of the intelligence is encrypted at times
867.4875 - not found - possible image of the above??

2) - 867.7375 - maybe TPS testing the P25 tone/coverage - been going on for a bit

3) - 862.4875 - belongs to the East Tower of TPS (voice channel).
Dunno why the SYSID came up weird like that.
Possible error?

Sounds like the 106 is picking up way more then it should (I knew it was a hot front end but its now making up systems) haha

867.4625 & 867.7375 are both part of the Toronto South command (TPS etc.) system. Loud and clear from Milton, and yes there's digital activity on 867.4625, t/g 4C2. Radios IDs 4D5E, 4D62 & 4D5C at least. I'm not seeing any activity on 867.7375 right now.

867.4875 I don't hear anything at all there, not even open carrier.

System a028 is Spectrum Communications from Kitchener. That particular system is associated with one of the large factories near 401 & 25 in Milton. The frequency you mention (862.4875) isn't part of it though. I confirm there's digital traffic alternating with open carrier on the frequency, but it's not in the group for a028. I also heard a brief analog transmission sounding like TPS dispatch (something like "Is PC xxxxxx on the air?") a few minutes ago, then back to digital and open carrier. Signal strength here is in line with Toronto PS from my location. The digital activity on 862.4875 and 867.4625 is almost 100% in sync, but sometimes the 862 freq. goes to open carrier while the digital traffic carries on with the other. I can't confirm if it's the same users or not obviously.

If you were near 401 & 25 when you heard some of this stuff it doesn't surprise me, my 396 goes a bit nuts in that area too. I suspect you were near enough to a028 to get some intermod with the others and it displayed as that system.

1 - I was hearing encrypted P25 traffic on 867.4625 and 867.4875 (NAC 082).

When monitoring a digital talkgroup on a trunked system while in conventional mode, the NAC should show up as the last two digits of the System ID + the Motorola Connect Tone number.

In this case is 08 from 3C08 and the Connect Tone is 2 (there's a table around the net somewhere that converts Motorola Connect Tone number to actual tone).

If you run Knack on Fleetnet Zone 1, you'll see 2Dx where x is the Connect Tone of the site.

I believe Peel's show up as 3D0 (543D + Connect Tone 0).

In regards to #2, I have also heard a steady tone, but in the 760-something area showing P25. A few minutes ago, playing with TUNE I caught a very quick "testing 1 2 3" on 764. ? ? ? ? and then nothing after that. Gonna have to keep lisnin' !

Thanks for the input guys! I assumed the encrypted stuff was likely TPS but wasn't sure. As foe the A028 system, the signal was very weak so again who knows what I was picking up. At the time I was basically at the 401 & James Snow Pwky.

Like I said, A028 is a valid system at 401 & 25, in the Karmax plant I think. It doesn't travel very many miles around that location. Given that there are still 800 MHz cell & iDen sites between 25 & James Snow I'd bet intermod played a major role.
