I've been using UniTrunker (now with BC250D voice scanner support!) to monitor the Waterdown site and was wondering if anyone else has done the same. I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed that the RIDs seem to correspond with the bus numbers...

Sounds like someone was actually on the ball when they assigned radio IDs.

On the Ohio MARCS system (not P-25, YET), they just give a few radio IDs to a group and their is no rhyme/reason behind them. Within a block of 100 radio IDs, you can have several agencies. The only Radio IDs that actually make sense are those for the Consoles. The mobiles/portables, well, that's another story.

The same sort of thing happens on the Hamilton TRS. I guess it's newer systems that are more likely to have a numbering/naming system that makes some sort of logical sense but all the same I was extremely surprised to hear the bus numbers correspond to the RIDs.

The age of the system has no bearing on it. It's up to the system admins to decide who gets assigned what radio ID(s).
