Noticed while browsing the TAFL today 4 frequencies licensed to CATSA. Ottawa 857.8875, Maritimes 857.8125, Praries 859.3325. And a Canada Wide Portable license for 458.6625. Not monitored any traffic yet. Nothing listed for Toronto or Vancouver. I know Pre-board Screening in Toronto useds LPE-200's.

Actually, CATSA at Pearson use XTS portables and are on the Peel system. They use some of the CBSA talkgroups, although I'm not sure which.

I think they are in one if not maybe more of the CBSA TG's if I am not mistaken.

In Vancouver they are on the YVR Motorola trunk (not exciting listening) If I hadn't figured out the new talkgroup I would have thought it was the other airlines humping bags as that is what fills the majority of that trunk up.

I'd like to believe they're using 859.3375 here in Calgary - that is licensed to them, and I hear traffic on it. But the traffic has an unusual "chop" to it; there's a regular, constant drop of the signal even if I am close to the airport. If I turn the squelch all the way down, I hear total static when the signal "drops". The people communicating don't appear to have any problems hearing each other, despite this..

I said that too about some conventional chatter on the Toronto Police system, but I could never pin down what caused it. Basically every 1.5 to 2 seconds, there's a total voice and carrier dropout for a split second. It soun.... like this so when yo... ear conversations you ge...rop words.

The OPP may have a block of simplex freq's in the Toronto area in the 458 range.

I believe they are licensed to use 458.5625 and 458.8625 ,and ".6625" is in the middle , don't know ,this is pure conjecture.

Listening to 458 to 459 range in Toronto and just hearing "business" chatter all day (nothing CATSA OR OPP) :(

Here in Edmonton I entered those CATSA freqs about a year ago and never heard a peep. Even when I have to go to the airport to pick someone up there's no traffic that I have evere heard. I am not sure they are using radios in Edmonton (?!). Or if they are, I don't think it's on the freqs licensed to CATSA.

I was refering to the Pre-Board Screeners...they wear CATSA uniforms, but are employees of Garda of Canada. Before Christmas one of the senior service delivery managers at T1 was chatting to a supervisor on an LPE-200. The Actual CATSA employees do use Motorola equipement.
