There was an article in todays Strathroy Age Dispatch detailing a joint request to town council for a new Police/Fire radio system for the community. The cost was listed at approx $320,000 but no real details were given. FD's concern is comm's are congested with 3 stations on 1 channel (Strathroy, Mt. Brydges and Melbourne). I'm not really sure why the PD would be looking for more capacity as they have a 2nd channel they rarely use as it is. Council has basically passed it off to the budget dept to see what can be worked out. Their main question was why Strathroy simply isn't dispatched by London (I believe Strathroy-Caradoc is the only other community in Middlesex County that isn't dispatched by the London Fire Dept). Even if dispatch was handed off to London (who dispatched Strathroy until the late 70's) they certainly could use a few more fireground or Tac channels. I'll post any other details as they are made public.
