Very confused

I just received my Pro-2096 and needless to say the programming of the OPP fleetnet stuff is making me scratch my head. I followed sticky for programming the pro-96, but I wasn't quite clear on what a local control channel was. The following is what I have been attempting to program for my area which is Oxford County in Southwester Ontario. I am in a town called Tillsonburg.

Looks like your following the wiki for a specific trunking system (Bell Fleetnet), but your programming in conventional channels.

You can still sort of follow the wiki BUT its not the exact same.
You need trunking OFF, then program in the channels and add the PL tones.

You'll want to enter the first frequency from your list
so 141.42500 ... then follow the instructions on # 5 to enter in 137.8PL

Instructions from the manual..

When the scanner is in Manual or Program mode, indicated with M or P in the top left
hand corner of the display, you can select your desired bank and channel number
using direct channel entry, the p or q arrow keys, and with FUNC and the p or q arrow
keys.
· For direct channel entry, press MAN or PGM, enter the channel storage bank (0-9)
and channel number (00-49) where you want to store a frequency, then press MAN
or PGM again. For example, Bank 3, Channel 23 is entered as “323”. The scanner
advances to the selected channel storage bank and channel, and the channel
storage bank and channel number appear at the upper left corner of the display (for
example: M323 or P323).
· Press FUNC, then p or q to jump to the next or previous channel storage bank.
· Press FUNC, then hold p or q to scroll through the channel storage banks.
1. To begin programming your scanner, press PGM. M changes to P. Select the desired
channel storage bank and channel, and press PGM to advance to that channel.

Use the number keys and ./DELAY to enter the frequency (including the decimal
point) you want to store.
If you make a mistake, press CLR to backspace and correct the incorrect digit, or
press and hold CLR for about 2 seconds to clear the entire field and start over.
3. Press ENTER to store the frequency into the channel.
4. By default, the scanner will configure the channels you enter for a two second delay
after a transmission is received. This is indicated by the D character that appears in
the top row of the display. If you do not want the scanner to pause for reply traffic
before resuming scanning operation, press ./DELAY until D is not visible in the top
line of the display.
5. If necessary, press MODE to change the receiving mode. Valid modes for
conventional frequencies include AM, FM/Digital, CTCSS and DCS. To program a
specific code for CTCSS or DCS mode, press FUNC MODE, then enter the desired
code followed by ENTER, or use the p or q keys to scroll to the desired code and
press ENTER to store the code with the channel memory. For more information on
CTCSS and DCS programming, see “Programming channels for CTCSS and DCS
operation” on Page 42.
6. If desired, program a text tag for the channel (see “Assigning a Text Tag to a
Channel” on Page 46).

Did you get it working? You were sort of mixing apples and oranges there. You mentioned you were trying to program OPP and were following my sticky for programming Fleetnet, yet the frequencies you listed are for Oxford Community Police (which is conventional, not trunked... and not related to Fleetnet or the OPP).

Ok, lets see what we can do here. You are in Tillsonburg, so your closest Fleetnet sites would be Aylmer or Woodstock most likely.

I will cut and paste from the 'Programming Your Pro-96 For Fleetnet' sticky with the numbers you need:

These first steps setup the bank you are using for Motorola trunking, and set the specific trunking tables that the radio needs to follow Fleetnet properly:

- Select a channel in the bank you wish to use for Fleetnet (typically the 1st channel of the bank)
- For this exercise, lets use bank 0. Hit MAN, then 000 ENT. That will take you to the first channel of Bank 0
- Press FUNC TRUNK
- Press the MODE button to select Motorola
- Press FUNC 2
Enter 141.015 as the base, followed by ENTER
Enter 380 as the Offset, followed by ENTER
Use the UP or DOWN buttons to adjust the Step size to 15.0 KHz
Press Enter to store the settings
- Press FUNC 3, then use the UP or DOWN buttons to set the 3600 CC Mode to TABLE, followed by ENTER
- Press MAN to exit the trunk settings

Now we (you) will enter the control channels (lets enter both Aylmer and Woodstock):

Now press PGM and enter the primary control channel for Aylmer:
- 142.245, then ENTER
- Press MODE to set the channel to MO

Now enter Aylmer's alternate control channel
- Press PGM again (scanner should move to the next channel) and enter 142.605 then ENTER.
- Press MODE to set the channel to MO

Now enter Woodstock's primary control channel
- Press PGM again (scanner should move to the next channel) and enter 142.260 then ENTER.
- Press MODE to set the channel to MO

And Woodstock's alternate control channel...
- Press PGM again (scanner should move to the next channel) and enter 142.530 then ENTER.
- Press MODE to set the channel to MO


You may also want to try the Simcoe site... depending on your actual location and type of antenna it's hard to say which of these sites will work best for you. If you want to enter Simcoe as well, just keep going with the process you just did, and enter 142.725 and 142.440 as the primary and alternate control channels.

At this point you should be able to hit scan and hopefully start hearing some activity (make sure you are scanning bank 0). If you hit MAN then step thru the channels you just programmed hopefully you will hear the control channel grinding away on at least one of them. Give them a listen and you should be able to determine which one you can receive best. Once you have the radio scanning you can start storing and tagging talkgroups.

I don't know if you have a programming cable or not, but all of this is a snap if you do. A programming cable and a copy of Win96 make life much easier

If you have any problems here let me know and I will try to help you out as best I can. I don't have a Pro-2096 but I do have a Pro-96 which is essentially identical in operation.

Thanks, that was greatly appreciated, I thought at first that the dispatching might be done from London when the OPP was on the CTCSS system.

Actually for our area (essentially Windsor to the other side of Kitchener) is dispatched from London Comm Centre. Beyond that it switches to Orillia.

What you probably are hearing is a patch or multi-select for Brant Co. Simoce Co and Oxford Co. units, all on one talkgroup.

Do you know what site your are picking up the traffic from?
