I'm not sure how many of you guys have read the Two Tone Detect thread here on Radioreference but one of the board members has developed an application that decodes the Quick Call II tones and then records 30 seconds of the page and emails it out in mp3 format with the subject line showing which department was paged.

I have set up all the rural departments in Waterloo Region and currently have them being forwared to Fire Paging | Google Groups if anybody is interested in trying it out. Each paged would be emailed separately with a small MP3 file containing 30 seconds of the dispatched call. I can also break it down to individual departments and create separate groups if some members only want certain departments. I have already done this system with a few Fire Fighters in Woolwich Township so it isn't really an issue.

I am considering adding additional departments if I find there is any interest. From here in Kitchener I can here the following areas.

Wellington County
Perth County
Brant County
Norfolk County
Halldimand County
Six Nations Fire
Halton Region
Grimsby
Orangeville / Shelburne / Grand Valley

Am I missing any?

Each County would require its own soundcard and receiver so I would be looking for donations of old conventional scanners and possibly donations via Paypal to obtain a multi-coupler and additional computers. Or others could possibly set up their own area and forward to the group I have created as another alternative.

I have tested this on a Blackberry Curve and an iPod Touch and it has worked flawlessly.

That sounds great!

Don't have any scanners, but got some UHF (simplex) gear if you want. Send me a PM.

I noticed the medical pages had no attachments tonight which I have since fixed,

The problem was the audio directory path was broken when I copied the folder to a new location in order to run multiple instances of the software. The reason for doing this is only to be sure all the pages come through during the Saturday and Monday tests. Six of the twelve departments use the eight second group page for their medical tones. When KFD dispatches the pagers test they will do the fire page followed immediately by the medical page. The problem is the software will still be busy recording and emailing the fire page when the medical page comes through but running a separate instances for fire and medical tones fixes that problem.

The best part about breaking the audio path is I can now send emails with no attachments for anybody who wants the alerts sent to their cell phones. :)

It might be interesting to set this up on the MOH paging frequency (149.44000)

Hmmm, I think I have an old 2m rig with a blown PA. Now all I need is a 12 power supply.

Well done

You've done a real nice job with this. Keep up the good work.

Any chance of listing the tones for the various agencies?

Thanks 69stiles, very helpful.

I have another idea that might be of help. How about putting the frequency they were received on in the same file.

I know the freqs are available in various places, but to have them all on one page would certainly help some people.

Comments? Updated page?

Thanks again.

The receive frequency for Waterloo Region will be 154.010mhz and is the only frequency currently being scanned.

When and if I do set up any additional departments it will be with dedicated receivers and soundcards since a fair number of departments share tones and it would be too easy to have false alarms across multiple departments.

The MOH will be a little tricky since they use two sets of tones for each page. The first group of tones opens up the VHF transmitter closest to the crew and the second tone is for the base or pocket pager. I would use the UHF hub frequency from just south of Arthur to eliminate interference from the surrounding agencies.

Not every MOH call goes through the paging system so your results might be limited.

Kitchener/Waterloo/Cambridge Fire Pager

ve3nsv - this is amazing. Thank you very much.

One question - is it possible to have a similar system for the cities in Waterloo Region? Or do you know of a pager system that is in place for working fires in the cities?

I have some parts (old computers, sound cards, etc.) I would be happy to donate.

Cheers,
Ian

No it isn't since the individual pages go out over a different system that isn't QC II.

On a different note I received my USB Soundcards today in the mail and I'm considering bring on another couple of departments. Should we take a poll to see which area comes online next?

I was thinking Wellington and Brant or possibly Perth and Wellington.

I threw the Waterloo Region paging onto the Edacs system of the TWP Dispatch TG to see how it will perform as apposed to the VHF paging frequency. It will eliminate the double pages caused by the urban repeaters and the annoying squelch tails. :)

All we need now is for a page to be sent out.

I also added Wellington County today but I yet to hear a call go out on either since the changes. Maybe I broke it completely. Elmira tests their stytem Saturday morning so we should hear something by then.

Stay tuned........

I tried adding Wellington County to the same machine and it doesn't seem to be working out so well. It seems to be having issues decoding even though the proper tone is being displayed in the tone window for whatever reason. I may have to build some sort of low pass filter as the software is seeing some junk under 200hz even though there is no PL on the main frequency. Either that or find out if Andy can tweek the software to ignore values under 200hz or ignore the first second of audio as Guelph seems to have added a second or two of lead time to over come attack time on the hub repeater.

I am looking for older P4 computers, conventional scanners and monetary donations towards a multi-coupler if anybody wants to help out.

I can hear:

Wellington County
Perth County
Woodstock / Oxford
Brant County
Norfolk County
Halldimand County
Six Nations Fire
Halton Region
Grimsby
Orangeville / Shelburne / Grand Valley

And would be aiming towards adding those areas when the hardware and funds become available.

So I have may a few additions and changes to the system.

I have added Wellington, Brant and Halton Region and made separate groups for each Region or County. Wellington and Brant are pretty much a done deal but I still need to sort out and decode some tones for the different departments in Halton unless somebody has already done this?

I would also like to add Perth County providing there is no conflicts with tones being used by any other of the other three departments that are on the same receiver / computer. Again if anybody already has a list of tones used by the rural departments in Perth County feel free to forward them. If not I will record and decode them myself. Anybody know what day and time they do their testing?

I can't add Oxford County until I get an additional receiver as they have conflicting tones with Wellington County. Once I get Halton and Perth all up and running I will see if Halldimand, Norfolk or Six Nations have any conflicting tones. If they are ok I may add them next but I don't really want to have more then 2 or 3 departments to a receiver for the risk of missing pages due to activity on a different channel.

Once again if anybody has any old conventional scanners either portable / mobile / base that they don't use feel free to send them along.

Here are the groups so far:

Waterloo Region

Baden Only

Wellington County

Halton Region

Brant County

And finally here is a web based blog that gets updated with the pages automatically for all the departments. No subscription required, just refresh often and enjoy.

If anybody wants to make a donation towards Hydro, Bandwidth or Required equipment they can feel free to do so at ve3nsv@hotmaill.com.

It seems there is no real demand for Halton, Brantford or Wellington County and I may discontinue those regions unless somebody in those area wants to take them over?

I will provide the .txt files and Two Tone Detect folder. All you will need is a dedicated machine and an old analog scanner.

154.010mhz is that the freq you grab Halton and Wellington with? I may take that over if i can grab it from here. This is a very cool service

Halton is on 151.160mhz and Wellington is on 153.770mhz. I know Wellington has a Transmitter in Ballinafad that you will easily pick up from your home and Halton shouldn't be an issue.
