OPP Unit ID's for the Provincial Detachments
Is anybody willing to try an start gathering a list of OPP Unit Id's for there area's detachment, or whatever you can hear from your area.
I've submitted my info. If you'd like I can post it here, an perhaps we can start from that, anyone mind?

Please submit only the zone's and not every single softid you hear on the air. Most soft id's change from day to day so it's not worth trying to keep track of them.
What we need is:
The first number which denotes the Region,
the 2nd letter which denotes the Detachment and,
the next number which denotes the zone.
With a simple guide, people can figure out who most soft id's belong to, e.g: 1A2xx Central Region Traffic Units, 1B0xx Barrie Detachment - General Units (sgt's, traffic, etc), 1B1xx Barrie Detachment - Oro Zone.
We don't want to see:
1B001 - Staff Sgt.
1B002 - Sgt.
1B003 - Sgt.
1B004 - Sgt.

Is the lists that I submitted to ya good enough or would ya like me to tidy it up a bit an resubmit this?
It'd be nice to see something like this in the database, it would help being able hear when by chance you hear other areas that you don't normally hear especially like times on the Sim Channels.
And if anyone can help me out with the bottom part that's listed here with regards to being able to tell which one would be a Sgt. or Staff Sgt. etc. You can email me offlist.
Thanks.

You can categorize soft id's as: Region, Detachment and Zone. You don't need anymore then that.
For instance:

It is enough just to say that the 3B100 cars are East Region, Town of Arnprior, Zone 1. Do we really need to know there can be up to 6 cars patrolling Arnprior?
For example, Huronia West in Central is:
1H0xx - Detachment Admin (Traffic, Sgt's, Special Duties)
1H1xx - Springwater Zone
1H2xx - Clearview Zone
1H3xx - Town of Wasaga Beach Zone.
1H8xx - Marine Unit.
I won't list every softid I've heard on the Huronia tg because it isn't needed.

Mike or anyone else if ya wouldn't mind sending me your list. I'd like to try an make a whole complete list for myself.
But ya, it makes for on the board here to only list it as categorized as you mention.
How will it look it in the database?

Re: OPP Unit ID's for the Provincial Detachments
Has anyone had any updates to any of these. I've had a few, but not many.

As you can see I'm new around here and new is an understatement. I picked up my scanner last week. The salesman said being new to scanning will be a challenge for the first time programmers. I beg to differ. With a little research at this site I programed all the OPP frequencies(at least the ones listed here)and most of the trunked systems for the GTA.
The reason I'm posting in this thread is not to boast this fact which I'm sure anyone could do but to state I could possibly help in your present quest. I drive a tractor all over Ontario. I like leaving the SEARCH feature running while rolling down the road. I'll do my best at gathering any new frequencies I can. Nice to be part of the team.
Update: Found a few this week listed as "Unknown". It's too late and I'm too tired but will work on it tomorrow. Chow.

Seeing as it's been awhile since this was addressed the last time. Just wondering if anyone has had the time to jot down some more ID's an such.
Would like to update my file here.
And also, I thought we were gonna include this in the database? Yet, I haven't seen anything yet.

Update to soft OPP soft IDs
Sorry this did not come out very even, but it's just too much to type in. I just thought I would add what I could to this discussion. I am sure there are some errors but I have done my best to use good quality information.....don't flame me if it's wrong, but please feel free to make corrections/additions where possible.
There sould be 4 columns, the soft id column, the service area column, the detachment formal name, and the last column is actually where the station is located.
Good luck!

These would all be Detachment units that roam the entire area. Anything with a 6T0xx are free to roam the entire detachment area. You can delete all of those entries and just put one entry in for the entire area.
Likewise, 6T9xx units would usually be temporary assignments for some sort of special detail. A lot of times the dispatcher will use a 6T09x temporary id as well.
This entry "6 Golf 00 Huronia West Huron Wasaga Beach" is also bogus. 1Hotel units are Huronia West not 6Golf.

Also a note for Middlesex OPP... They are 6 Juliet, not 6 Quebec. 6J0xx units seem to be seargants, 6J1xx thru 6J5xx are zone cars, while 6J6xx units are First Nations (Chippewa/Muncey) Officers.

Check this out
Thanks to all who have responded to the OPP soft ID discussion so far. Your comments are welcome and appreciated.
I do have a rebuttle for Forts regarding the Middlesex area.
In the case of the Western zone (6) I got my information from a OPP website and assumed the information to be correct. I have included the website for all to peruse.....and again comment.....please.

Errors
I have found a few errors in my list. It had been a long day.
Let me redo the Western Zone and then we'll try again.
Flames OK this time as it was my mistake....sorry.

I've seen that site as well, and I don't know why it says 6Q. All I can say is that I live about a 1/2 km from the Strathroy detachment in Middlesex county, and the units are 100% 6Juliet. Haha, actually.... if you go to that link, and click on the link for MIddlesex OPP.. then look at the picture of the detachment. If you could see thru the hill in the background you would see my house

And a small caveat about the Burlington 5Charlie cars...I do hear various 'zones' being used for Burlington and Niagara. Couldn't tell you for sure what exactly they are other than the sergeants usually being 5C00X and 5G00X cars.

Generally the Staff Sgt of the detachment would be 5C001. The sgt on duty would be 5C002. If more then one sgt is on then you'll hear 5C003 and so on.
A lot of times ERT and Canine units would be given temporary id's of 5C09x.

I concur...5C001 was on duty yesterday along with two other sgt's in Burlington and one (5G002) in Niagara. Along the same lines I heard 3 zones being used for Burlington...here's my guess as to what the approximate zones are:
5C1XX - QEW-403 cars (from Port Credit's area to approximately Grimsby)
5C2XX - Hwy 6 north and 403?
5C3XX - Hwy 6 south and Hwy 8?
There may have been a 5C4XX or two in there as well so it's possible that there's an additional zone that I haven't been able to figure out. I've got to admit I don't pay much attention to OPP softids outside of the detachment the unit originates from...the softids switch around so much it's hardly worth keeping track of.
Let us also not forget the 1Foxtrot and 1Juliet units...prisoner transport vehicles as far as I know but they don't show up on Ralph's list. Typical softids are 1F04X, 1F03X, 1J04X and 1J03X and so on and so forth. I've logged a pile of them (and they seem to keep a static softid) generally showing up on the wide area talkgroups, such as 1GTR or 1LNDON.
