Default Tracking down a radio owner?

Ok here is the deal.

My dad found a Motorola HT750 in the park by the ballfields in his town while on his daily walk. He brought it home and my mom called me about it and said she would bring it to me.

Is there way to track down the owner? I thought that if I used the serial # and called Motorola, they may have some idea.

Years ago Mother "M" could help, altho I have found lately NO GO.

Take off the Battery, there might be a sticker on the inside for the owner or the Radio Shop.

See if you hear anyone on it.
Also if you have Close-Call on any of your Scanners, see what Freq pops up with a Quick key-up. Then search RRDB for a local user

Finally, when all else fails, "Hey I found your Radio" works too...

While Moto may be of no help I have had some success contacting local shops or distributers
who sometimes keep track of model/serial numbers sold and to whom. I did manage to return
one portable this way.

I was going to take the battery off and look for a shop sticker or maybe a sticker that said "Property of..."

The only scanner I have is a BC780XLT so no close call feature. I may just take the radio to a shop I deal with and have them read the radio and ill get the Rx Tx and PL. That way, I can track down the owner if its a government owned radio based on where he found it (I used to live there).

If it was found in a park.. Call the park district and ask if they have a radio missing

Send it to me. I'll put an ad in an obscure newspaper for 1 day and if no one claims it. . . . . .

I know a radio tech that I used to work with. Since I used to live in the town where it was found, I am familiar with the frequencies. If there are no stickers on it and cant find that it belongs to the Village government, I will have my tech download the information and give it to me. It will give me insight as to who owns it and I can go from there. If it does not belong to a government and I cant locate the owner, the radio will be wiped clean and inspected and sold. If it does belong to a government, it will be returned in person ASAP.

Well, when I went to my parents house, I removed the battery and right on the radio was "Property of Troy Township." I immediately took it to the Troy Township Fire Department (Richland County) and returned it.

At least our tax dollars won't be a waste. I'm glad you got the info and turn it in. I heard something awhile back at jacksonville someone from F/R left a radio behind and someone at walmart pick it up and talked on it and the other end came back and asked who is this. Needless to say they got the radio back.
