Just a few minutes ago, one of the Pgh city dispatchers left her mic open on the main dispatch channel while she was yakking to someone on the telephone telling them she was going to wear her old lady pajamas tonight for someone.

Me thinks she is going to be the laughingstock of the 911 center for the next few days.

Question

OK, I didn't hear this on a scanner, but when talking with some guy (won't mention names) about radio phenomena (skip), this guy tells me (he really believed this), that radio distress calls from the Titanic are still traveling through the air and occasionally are heard by other ships, etc. Like the distress calls Titanic sent out are still bouncing around the globe randomly, like an eternal RF signal that never lost its strength. I was kind of wowed that this guy really believed that and couldn't see that it was impossible. I wonder who told him that to begin with?

Rofl.... Even if it didn't lose strength, how would you distinguish it from the other 94544545656450546 signals broadcast on the same freq????

This isn't "outrageous", but is kind of funny... I just heard it on Newport News, VA South dispatch talkgroup.

Officer 1 "... yeah I put street cones out a few minutes ago but they are floating away, I guess they had a sex change into a buoy"
Officer 2 "HAHA I am going to see how deep the water is... nevermind, my car is now a buoy... Central can you please roll a wrecker to 25 and Ivy to pull my car out of the water?"
Officer 1 "While you are floating out there, can you try to recover my street cones?"

A few from Sydney, Australia.

- Was scanning about 5 years ago when i hear a special ops back channel in use for what sounded like an arrest or bust on a drug deal. Police surrounding a large shopping centre where the perp was believed to be. I dont remember full details on the job as i was only about 13 but every now and then a supervisor or similar would call in and give his latest known movements. Perp heads into fire exit to which a crew requests the details again. They are read out to which the crew replies "F**k he passed me heading towards the exit about 5 ago!

- Around Christmas/New Year of either 2003 or 2004 a car crew calls through a rego check and license check on an interstate driver. I reckognised the name and it happened to be a contestant on a major TV show at the time (Idol) to which the female officer at dispatch requested "GET ME HIS AUTOGRAPH!" to which the car crew replied "Dont worry it will be on the ticket, this bloke never renewed his license 5 years ago!"

- Call for a male pleasuring himself in a cinema obviously not overly private setting. The only car crew available is a crew of 3 female officers, all done without issues. When calling back from the job one officer states "Why is it only the ugly ones that like to do it in public"

Like maybe the good looking ones haven't the need to do it at all? (;->)

Jackson Fire and EMTs and the GSP like to keep it clean and clear while doing their job. Sometimes a mic will lock. Then what really goes on while the mic is off, goes public. A dispatcher that normally sounds clean-cut, swears to her buddies next to her at dispatch. I never have a recorder ready, though. Too bad!
