I started as ScanMike back in the AOL days and even as I moved from AOL to other ISPs. Later on, I had to lengthen it to ScanMikey because ScanMike was always taken. After that, it just kind of stuck with me.

Back in the day before Internet, yes I am old, there were several dial-up networks as well as BBS systems. CompuServe came out with a "CB Simulator" which was one of the first in the industry that allowed users to chat. You were limited to the number of characters in your handle so I had to go with the electronics abbreviation for Transistor, my CB handle for many years.

Many people know me from my activity with the Freehold First Aid Squad, East Freehold Fire Co., BNN paging, FIRECOM radio, and my employment with the Monmouth County Sheriffs Communications 911 center or "The County RADIO ROOM" for 30 years. My name is first and my County ID - County identifier 6900 series and 05 is my Radio Operator number.

What does my user name mean?
Well, long time lurker here, first time registering! Decided to go ahead and use my first initial and last name, there: phartmann. I asked my spouse if it was ok to use this one and she said it's a great one, fits me perfectly. For some reason the kids think it's funny but I don't get it?

User Name
I used my ham radio call sign, KB5JBS, and just added HAM at the end of it for some reason. I should have just stuck with the call sign.

My real Name is Jerry. A lot of my friends for years have called me Jerrybob or Jbob. It stuck and some people just call me Bob. I will answer to just about anything if there is food involved. When i started using this site it was because of my scanners, so Scanbob is here.

I decided to pick my username name randomly from something at my monitoring post and decided upon the shortwave radio that my dad had handed down to me recently to use that he bought back in the 70's. She's still one fantastic DX listening workhorse!

I wasn't to keen on creating unique names when I created my account years ago, so I just used my own. Easy to remember and answer when called.
