Hello all,

I (like many others) have been unable to obtain the full version of this board and am missing tone decoding and signal strength. I just wanted to know if there is anyone who has done anything to get this info into the serial port. I know adding an external s-meter isn't a big deal and there is separate software to decode tones, but I would really like to make full use of probe by bringing this info into it.

One thing I have wondered is "What is this mysterious obsolete chip?" It was a supplier who stopped making it, not Optoelectronics, so perhaps it could be found in some other device I could pick up for a few bucks. Of course, even if I found the magic chip in some other device and was willing to risk soldering it onto the existing pads, I have no idea if the firmware was changed. If someone could at least identify the chip, perhaps google could find some more info than I've been able to turn up with the knowledge I have.

I guess I'm just wondering if anyone has any technical info about restoring this board to its full functionality or supplementing it with some sort of daughter board to get everything working.

Thanks!

Just got one of these scanners, a lot different from the old Realistic I used a thousand years ago. I am impressed. But, no USB cable came with it, so I had to order one from GRE. A little intimidated about programming, but the manual was clear and VHF simplex a piece of cake. I like the way I can program the led light to have different colors, the screen to come on, etc. I even managed to manually program a Project 25 talk group using the hex codes. I'll wait for the cable and use WIN500 to program the rest though. I read on another post the NWS alert scaring the pants of another poster, I found where you can turn that alarm off if you want under the SAME settings.

Impressive scanner.

Greetings, I just got my GRE PSR-400 today! First impression is it feels like a quality radio. I am pretty stoked :) My plan is to eventually use it mobile.

I could use advice where manual programming and scanning is concerned. My local police, etc use Motorola Type II Smartnet Analog. I have programmed in the (15) 800MHZ freq's that my local system uses in memory 1-15. When I scan and press mode and go to MOT:, I can see the correct talk group numbers for my local police and fire. However, I can't seem to figure out how to make it track those talk groups. Do I need to manually enter each talk group somehow? I am used to Uniden BC245XLT where you enter the freq's and hit "trunk" and she's all set to track the groups.

The user manual is a bit vague and I can't seem to find specific instructions on how to scan trunked frequencies whereby seeing the talk groups. Any light anyone can shed would be great. This looks like a fantastic site for scanner enthusiasts.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions...

What is the type of DC plug used on the PRO-197/PSR-600 scanner?

Anyone want to sell their DC cord?

I am also in need of the DIN enclosure, keys, bracket, and mounting knobs.

Hi as some of you know i just recently gotten the GRE PSR-600 Digital Scanner.

My problem is on some of the police, fire,EMS frequencies ill have what sounds like Pager and Weather interference coming in on the frequencies for the Police,Fire,EMS. Its really annoying,it gets to the point where i have to turn off the scanner :( Please tell me its not my radio doing this and its only the Emergency systems that have a crappy radio system. Almost feels i spent $400 for nothing :(

Oh one other weird thing that happens sometimes after someone talks it will just stick to that frequency with nothing happening,Its like white noise like you would hear on TV.

Or could it be there cheap way to scramble there frequencies so us scanner listeners can't listen in? Err its not totally scrambled its just really hard to hear.

Btw you guys were kidding these radios are sensitive,i mean picking stuff up.

I don't have antenna on the roof cause i'll have 2 Communications antennas up soon and it will interfere with the scanner.

What are the capabilites of the PSR-295 when connected to a PC? Is it just a way of cloning, or can it be controlled / programmed etc via it?

2nd question - where can I get a cable, preferably in the UK, or can I make one if someone here has a pinout?
